So I was in my grow room today putting the new panel into action and man my eye's are beat! I was wearing some cheap sunglasses on and off, but I tell you after a day of looking into/around my panels my eyes are smarting and I think it's time for me to start being serious about my eyes around my panels. So I was just wondering what the RIU community, specifically you LED crazies :), think about their lights and their eyes. Are you guyz wearing glasses or not around your lights? Are you turning your lights off before working on your plants or not caring. And what kind of eyeglasses/protection are you using? And since we never have polls around here let's have one.

Maybe I'm just getting old or it's all the Far Red I've got in the tent now, but I'm starting to think it's time to go out and spend some money on some decent eye-wear. Any suggestions?

I only have a small grow so I don't spend too much time messing around under the LEDs. If I want to look over my plants (look for nanners, etc.) I pull them out and put them under regular light.

Always remember it's a good habit to be safe besides it keeps accidental nutrient splashes out of your eyes aswell.

So after taking a break from all things lighted my eyes have calmed down but it was amusing this morning when I checked my temps and my eyes instantly did that involuntary squint thing when I opened the tent as if they were saying "Haven't you had enough?". I think the theme words this weekend are "glass" and "polarized" :).

And yeah MindMy, I couldn't agree more. I wear safety glasses when I clone and transplant. I love the results of Clonex for cloning, but if you've ever read it's label you'll know it's some nasty stuff. Plus I grow organically so when I'm transplanting there's bound to be some nasty stuff floating around me while I work, along side those "splashes".

I tell ya gang after reading up some more on blue LED lights I've decided that they're the Devil incarnate and 450nm and friends are going to be banned from future grows and panels :cuss:. Fuck man, Cree XR-E Royal Blues driven at 1.0 amps are outright dangerous to your peepers! I'm just going to use white LEDs to handle those spectrums from now on. I would think that, as others here have pointed out, a phosphor coated white LED should suffice. And it seems it really was that Far Red 730nm on my new panel that was dazzling my eyes. I didn't really understand how a person's eyes responds to Far/IR light (hint; They don't!) and my pupils weren't dilated enough for the amount of light that was actually getting in. So if your gonna screw around with Far Red/IR lights, protect those eyes kiddies.
