Hi All,

As I have Multiple Myeloma and the medical community can offer me no more treatment, I was determined to find a way to help myself with cannabis oil. After lots of reading and research I decided to grow my own cannabis in order to make the oil, then at least I know exactly what I am getting, I bought the CBD crew seeds and tenderly and patiently cared for 4 plants from seed, they all grew beautifully and by the time it was harvest I had around 5 huge glass kilner jars full of bud.

This weekend I followed the instructions on the Rick Simpson site to the letter to make my oil, I used the Polish vodka Spyritus 98% proof.

Imagine my dismay when I ended up with only less than a teaspoonful of oil!! I cant believe this! I paid £40 for the seeds, Over £200 for my grow set up, and £50 for the vodka this is without the long months of tending and pampering my plants, for less than a teaspoon of oil?!?! Surely something is wrong, Could I have done something wrong during the oil making? Do I need more than 4 plants to make a decent amount of oil? I really want to help myself to get better, but FFS all this time, money and dedication for so little. I would be really grateful for your input, thanks

the problem is the yield. IT takes a lot of cannabis to make very little Oil. you get a much higher yield when making dabs or green dragon from isopropyl alcohol . im sorry to hear of your disappointment. and im sorry to here that you are sick. I hope everything works out for you but if you've seen Running from the Cure by Rick Simpson you should know that the controversy with oil is the amount of money and dedication it takes to produce it.

BOOM thanks @Greenhouse;save for the props

Sounds to me like your process was sound enough but vodka ??? 98% isn't pure enough. Isopropyl is 99.9% so use that. How many times did you rinse and crush your bud in alcohol ?? Was your bud nice and dry before you started?? I can help you bro but I need to know your variables. Weight of product used, wet or dry. How many rinses with alcohol. Filtration method. Heat source to evaporate alcohol.

It doesn't have to take pounds of product to make top quality oil. If you use good methods and good product you can usually get 7ml of oil from 2 oz of cannabis. It may not seem like a huge amount but that's the rate of conversion.

You said 98% proof? If its 98 proof then its not pure enough. 200 proof is pure. was it 98proof or 98% alcohol?

I can't help on the oil making part but I do know when your growing high cbd strains not every pheno or plant will carry the trait ..u will need to sample each plant to c witch ones have it and what works for U..if your on a search for a high cbd strain U will need to take clones from all your plants and find witch is best for U...and make a mother plant...hope this helps

My wife makes and uses daily a strained Green Dragon that works well and has for years. We use 190 proof alcohol (pictured) that is available locally. 200 proof is pure ethanol and used in solvents and such..also really fucking expensive!!DSC00100.JPG

I looked into making oil for a patient, you will really need a rotary evaporator or a make shift one, I'm thinking of building one using a drill as the rotator on a hot plate in boiling water using a 500ml glass flask.

I notice his recipe called for an entire elbow (1lb) of bud would get 2 ounces of oil, if you only used 4 or 5 ounces it could explain the low amounts, just an idea

It's great to see everyone pitching in and helping.

Is it absolutely essential to have real RSO? It seems to me that for some diseases the green dragon or any properly prepared tincture would help that uses all parts of the plant.

I've heard Rick say that he never recommended high CBD strains. I was confused on that in the beginning. He recommends the best quality indica you can get. If CBD will definitely help your condition then that's probably best.
The CBD strains may still be unstable or it may be difficult to know the levels without testing as suggested.

POP NATURALS makes a Cannatonic co2 oil that is realllly cost effective if you can get your hands on some. It's readily available in California. It's only $50 a gram. 1 drop knocks me on my butt. (We've been using this on melanoma and it seems to be working). Rick says this stuff is not RSO though. Maybe he is just trying to promote RS or maybe he is correct.

I also know that you can buy the co2 extraction machines for home use. They are about $3000 as I recall.

The RCO is primarily for fighting internal cancers That's my understanding. He promotes high THC indicas due to their pain relief and active cancer fighting properties. I know big pharma promote CBD because they are under licence to produce oil that doesn't get you high. Pharma are investigating synthetic CBDs as that is the most profitable way forward. Anything must be better than nothing
