not sure if this is the best spot for this thread...

so i have been a smoker all my life :joint:... a lot :joint:... I'm the guy that smokes more than anyone you know :joint:... ( I'm 40 now)
i have smoked dirt weed all that time with occasional "mids" and every once in a while some good stuff, I used to just call all the good stuff kowabunga. i knew that there was better stuff out there... stuff with names...

i went to California this past july to see what it was all about, and stayed with a guy i knew only from playing online video games with for 10 years. :o scary hu?
He is a medical patient/grower with i guess a few peoples cards???

well dude was as cool in person and shared a lot of knowledge with me. i spent a week helping him watering and caring for his plants. and sampling everything. food, drinks, dabs, concentrates, and lots of different smoke...
i now have a favorite "strawberry cough" its the best thing ever, they even had it in soda too.

since then i have been building a very small but good setup one piece at a time, ordering seeds... killing seeds... i just harvested my 1st time and had my next one ready to go. i have cooked some edibles, i am a pretty good cook anyway. i made bubble hash once and it worked

i know i just started but i think i am doing pretty good.
i generally pick things up pretty quickly.
i have always been one to take a job thats fun over a job that $ucks.
i have played music for a living, i have done graphic arts, electronics building, repair and installation, had my own store for a few years (that didn't end well... you just can't compete with walmart and best buy) now i am working at a metal fabricating shop running CNC laser ...

if your still reading this thanks...
so anyway i think i could do this for a living. i know i have a lot to learn.
what could i do? where should i go? (currently in Pennsylvania in a very small town)
is it even a possibility?

i figure it is going to be legal here if not everywhere in a few years... should i just stay here and keep doing what i am doing in hopes i will have gained enough experience on my own to find a job here once it happens??

so anyone have any advise?

one thing i do know is that i don't want to have my own business. i will make someone a great employee but it can't be my own place i am just to high stress and anxiety. i would like to do everything grow, trim, cook, make concentrates, help customers, anything there is to do.

how much could someone new expect to make? 25K?

again if you read this all the way through thanks. i know i tend go on and on but, i just want to give as much info as possible.

ive answered a few of these threads and will give you the same advice.
Go o school and get a deegree in horticulture or start working for a greenhouse. the experience you get there will be what employers are looking for.
Mass production is going to be key when legalization happens

When it comes to legalization I really don't think there is gonna be an amhizer bush of weed, maybe there will be genetic companies doing the genetics for seeds driving the types of weed people smoke but massive weed production companies I doubt it. Everybody will know somebody who grows and if they don't and they want it they'll either grow it or buy it.

Market just fell out here in Cali. Almost cheaper to buy it than grow it now. I wouldn't count on an income from it.

I have jars and jars of top-shelf that won't even pull $1500/lb here. Market is just too flooded and total legalization will just bring the price down even further.

If you come to Cali, get a job serving tables. You work 30 hours a week and can pull a six-figure salary if you find the right bar/restaurant. Spend the rest of your time surfing and growing sweet meds!

Can you compete with growers who "want to do it for a living" who have been growing underground for the past 20-30 years?

I think they will hire a highly educated person for the top and minimum wage non felons to do the grunt work.

Competition for that top is gonna be fierce.

Get to college.

lol $50 an oz
im sorry but thats complete BS, source?
Is like.... almost reality here in Washington ...you can snag up a LB at the cannabis market for $1000-1600.....$1600 is $100 ozers $1000 is $62

My topshelf gets $140-150 when its sold in ozers used to $250-300...

I hoping the over taxed weed prices in our recreational stores will drive the black market prices back up again :)

Hate to say it, but I don't think growing weed as a money-making, solid source of income is going to work for much longer. Unless you're in a "dry" state where consequently the risks are higher.

Do it to make some pocket cash and to be happier, but if it's money you're after... Well, good luck. In that case you would probably NEED to have a business where you offer your own 'twist' - like a coffee shop for gamers, or surfers, etc.

Good luck anyway!
