Smoking is Not a Good Way to Medicate

I know I'm going to get some flack for this one but I think it's worth saying. It's just my opinion and I know everyone is different. Feel free to reply with your opinion.

A few years ago I got into making edibles. I got it down and decided to give up smoking because I was sick of coughing up a lung every morning. And I've gone back and forth between smoking and not smoking for the last 3 years or so.
It's much better when it's edibles only.
- First of all the smoke itself is obviously unhealthy, see attached pic of my pipe. I clean it pretty often so this is the tar that builds up within a month or 2.
- The buzz from edibles is much stronger when I'm not smoking. My tolerance seems to be lower and a cookie that I could barely feel before will put me down for a couple hours.
- I get lazy when I'm smoking. I procrastinate more and I'm just lazier in general.
- When smoking I need more and more bud to get high. Every time I go back One puff mangles me for at least 2 hours. But slowly over the course of a week I need to take a few puffs, and then smoke a whole bowl. And even then the strong buzz only lasts for 30-60 min. And no lie I get almost withdrawals. I get pissed off, can't eat and sometimes a sick feeling. I don't get any of this when edibles only. In the end it just costs more to smoke. But I am a pothead who is always stoned unless I'm at work so a cookie or 2 a day is much better than 4-5 bowls.

I guess this is my PSA of the new year. Maybe it will get you thinking. And for me the money and productivity is the worst part of smoking but every aspect is better with just edibles. Yet I still struggle to stay away from smoking all together. I went the first 4 months of last year w/o smoke and It was great.

Hopefully this inspires you to give it a try:peace:

yep, rolling up dried flowers and inhaling their burning smoke is silly, yet a very effective way to medicate for thousands of years.
some people dont hack a lung after smoking pot for 40 years even, cigarettes on the other hand.....
edibles are awesome for some, a great choice too. some prople react very differently than you though when they eat their meds.

If your buzz is lasting 30 minutes, and leaves you pissed off and anxious I would point directly at your source of meds, grow habits used, harvesting and drying habits and strain choices too. Then I'd be sure to keep my vitamin/mineral intake up in my own body too. magnesium deficiency is an oft found culprit.

Get better meds. Try some exercise. Smoking anything is bad. Try growing your own, if you're spending too much. Get better meds. Try using a Bong, not a dirty 10 dollar pipe. Vape? Get better meds. Don't blame the meds on your laziness ;)

No I don't get pissed off after smoking. It was kind of confusing the way I worded it. It happens when I go more than 6ish hours without smoking again. If I'm just doing edibles I can go all day without anything like that. I think its the habitual act of smoking and a bit of an addictive personality. I see it as : Edibles is to smoking as Cocaine is to crack. Once you start lighting shit on fire and inhaling things get bumped up a notch.

I'm blaming the laziness on the smoking, not the meds. I've gone back and forth for a few years now. And I just slack when I smoke. And when I'm only doing edibles I do constructive projects when I get buzzed, like building a shed or doing some yard work. Same exact meds, different way of consumption, different effects. These are my observations since I started making edibles...Bongs are good if you want to filter out thc more than anything else, that's not what I'm trying to do.

I guess the bottom line I'm trying to make is edibles are a much better choice for me. Tolerance stays low, fresh lungs, better memory, breath, diet, and energy. But somehow I manage to bust out the pipe and spiral down:eyesmoke:. Maybe when I turn 30 I'll give up smoking for life.

I can believe that ! Balance is key ! But The benefits of eliminating smoke all together are very good ! I'll always be lighting up a joint though ! Maybe not as frequently as I used too. This personal harvest I got going I'll be making some very strong edibles. Everything out now seems extremely weak or ineffective. Tolerance hasn't been too much of a problem for me as I usually never get though 2 gs in a day. Haven't rolled to many joints or blunts lately, just been using the ol bong. Used to love dabbing, but it raises my tolerance through the roof and put me to sleep a little faster than I like ;). Have you tried tinctures?

. No tinctures here. And I've never even thought to try making any. We've had medical in my state for 2-3 years now and there are still no dispensaries They're trying to set it up so they can collect as many fees and taxes as possible. I make BHO a couple times a year. But like you said, the tolerance goes way up.

I prefer edibles also, mainly for the same reasons you mentioned.I like edibles during the day, because I can function alot better, and don't get so forgetful.I find it too difficult to control the effects from smoking, either too stoned,or not stoned enough.Plus I don't get that burned out feeling after the edibles wear off, like I do from smoking.I pretty much do edibles during the day,and just take a few hits from a joint at night before bed.Works for me.

I don't know how to make edibles that don't completely fuck me up for the duration of the day. I like taking a small bong hit a few times a day, simply because I sober up from them pretty quick.

Alot of people are under this assumption. To put it simply, edibles can't not work for anybody. Thc gets to your blood stream you get high. Here are a few reasons many people think they don't get high from edibles: 1. tried it and they were made wrong 2.They were fake, and stay with me here... So a few years back in Colorado right from the pot shops MOST of the edibles contained only a fraction of the thc they claimed to. There was only regulation to not exceed the limit and no regulation to hit the limit therefore some companies aired on the side of caution and yet some others blatantly ripped customers off with nearly non existing thc counts. Who knows in which other states this has or is happening. 3. My personal secret method to getting every drop out of edibles, eat like a fat kid right before you take them. Eating edibles on an empty stomach nearly negates the entire high for me. I have eaten 40mg and gotten a buzz. I have then eaten the same product and dosage after eating a nice fat cheeseburger and it was night and day. I have eaten edibles ten mg at a time over six hours. Felt ok. Ate dinner and got slammed with all of it. I don't know if it is a metabolism thing or a fat solubility thing but give it a shot. This one thing may change your outlook on edibles. Also word of caution if you do get destroyed by edibles, you cannot eat the high away like you can with smoking. That was a simultaneous revelation lol..

You need to do more research, some people with digestive issues can't use edibles effectively. I have Crohns, I have trouble digesting fatty foods, most just pass through. Seeing how the active compounds are "oils", I don't easily digest them. I've eaten a 1/2g of decarbed extract, straight up, and got a very mild, almost imperceptible, body high. I've eaten homemade and dispensery edibles with no effect while others on the same thing were blown away.

Vaping and smoking are the only way I can medicate effectively. I'm just getting into tincture, they seem promising.

Ok so then nobody without fat uptake issues lol.. i didn't think of stuff like that or maybe people with reaaaaally slow metabolism MAY have trouble with edibles as well i guess. Have you tried to eat first like i mention or is that for sure not going to factor in at all? Might be worth a try

I made some brownies years ago that knocked me and other people on a roller coaster ride for 6 hrs, I had this guy claim edibles did nothing for him, so i made him an extra meds brownie and the guy didn't even flinch.:o

Nothing works. I've done full stomach, empty stomach, high doses, multiple doses in a short time, I've cooked full meals incorporating infused coconut oil, which 1/2tbs ruined my friends. Trust me, I've tried, pisses me right off.

I'm the same way! I don't get a buzz on an empty stomach and it finally kicks in once I do eat something. I have noticed everyone is different. I made a thread about it and people were on both sides of the fence (empty vs full). There was a time I thought edibles didn't work until I made them myself. And I also like them better when I'm not smoking at all. I seem to get a stronger longer lasting buzz.

@WeedFreak78 Bummer man! You've decarbed and everything? That does sound pretty frustrating.

I prefer smoking. I don't really enjoy the edible high as it feels dirty and fuzzy to me. But I don't have too much experience with them either. I made cannaoil once so I got an idea of what it felt like.
