Personally I don't think there's better than venting into a chimney provided you know its not capped off and its going up and not shared. Unscrew the vents and put camera phone in, look up and down, it likely that the chimney vent is where your fireplace would of been originally, meaning its your chimney. Its not 100% certain though with cowboy builders these days and shitty flat conversions.

Edit, look at the roof from a distance, if there isn't at least as many chimney pots as there are flats don't risk it.

Do not vent into the vents, that will just put odor there and the air movement there probably isn't enough to guarantee the odors will go up. I have 7 chimneys on my house, each is totally separate ( but all in the same chimney breast) and would of originally belonged to a fireplace in every room. So for me, all I had to do was figure out which pot linked to which room and remove a brick for the right one. I also removed 2 bricks from the basement chimney which serves as my intake, the basement is many degrees cooler than the rest of the house..

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out if yours are usable. Good luck with it. Fingers crossed.

PS, since your above them even if theirs is connected the air will rise as long as its not capped at the top, it would be pointless putting vents in if it were capped off as it wouldn't allow air movement. Chimneys are by design capable of taking far more air than your average fan would put out.

Manuel , you cant extract heat or air like that. But if its working for you, hey, you go for it.
I know what you mean about growing plants been relaxing though. There's something very rewarding about growing any type of plant.
