Small Spaces: LED Organics

I plan to take the leap and make my own LEDs but now is not the time for me. I'm looking to add 1 Kessil H380 to my setup and use the cheap ebay chinese leds as side/vegetative lights once I'll be done working on my other cab but that wont be done soon yet
Stay at it! I have wanted to build my own for about a year and finally it is reality. Good things come to those who wait?

That is nice for a small grow, I don't think it could support my toking habits but it would be nice to play around with. Maybe even do some miniature breeding.

Love to watch your progression from the Blackstar on up

I am making the move on up, just waiting for drivers to miss the Chinese new year and arrive :peace:

Haha, like you, I'm just trying to smoke for free:) Seems that I'm going though just over 2oz/month and it's expensive.

Is that four 3070's you're putting together? Should do your area quite a nice upgrade!! I'm only on my second grow with the cobs, but they really upped the game by orders of magnitude.

I can't believe you remember the blackstar:) Thinking back, I'm still surprised I got anything out of it in that minifridge, haha.

Where did you get that case? It looks pretty nice...eventually, I want to mount all my drivers in a fan-ventilated case, something similar to yours maybe.

For now it is only 2x 3000K AB 3070's @600mA. Thinking about going up to 2-3 more in my space....its funny, but those 2 alone put out about 20.5 PAR watts, while drawing just a bit over 40w's altogether....My whole setup before was 108w's and 29 PAR watts total....looking forward to the improvements :leaf:

The case was for the Vero 10 v1 light I built for a mini frige...lol......It got really hot and ended up having to remove the case, because I didn't have time to engineer it further....The case is from a 400w Inverter from a motorhome to capture generator output. Had a gfci inside too...

but it was really bright, but got a little too hot inside the case, should have stuck with it....

so I had to take a driver and two Vero 10's off.

Looks like this currently 4x Vero 10 3500K @300mA....ghetto as fruck but a fits all my engineering desires for testing....

I wish I had a suggestion for you.
I don't know.
Glad I had no bug problems... just shitty roots... lol
fyi, whenever I get funky roots in my bubble and aero cloners, I throw in H30, stuff is magic. I am sure you aware of it, but damn it really works good. Especially the horti grade which is 30% compared to grocery store @5%

As far as the bugs, I have just been plain lazy.

Been thinking about it, I need to upgrade my maintenance....bought some diatomaceous earth tonight...

powder it onto my medium....

abiqua,

curious about your growing habits/methods - I have a similar sized space to grow. Your plants look like bonzai trees :)
Hey thanks, as a matter of fact, I used to keep some small bonsai trees and have a family member that still does.

Sorry haven't really updated the thread, new lights coming, life, etc. these are the basics:

My methods are spastic to say the least, but I will break them down into two parts, some I will leave out, because you might not believe it :joint:

Soil

Started with a soil mix consisting of:
1/3 compost organic
1/3 peat
1/3 perlite

Got all of this from Home Depot and basically made about 6 cf of soil with the above ratio as my base mix.
I cook this for at least 4 weeks. Less is fine, more is better :leaf:
However, as plants were harvested, I start a new bin and add mainly just the old rootballs. This is my version of ROLS recycled old living soil.....I add some compost over the tops of the rootballs as they cook and some more nettle teas....
OK so after a year....I am still going on the 6cf of soil, but now "recycled" with maybe 1/2 cf of new compost. I use 12x64 oz of soil every 60 days, so I am onto the 2nd recycling bin, so the 3rd use of the same soil.......

Ferts
. I hand harvest stinging nettle
dry half and turn into meal and
soak the rest as as fermented plant extract,

This fermentation process is the same method as cold hydrolyzed seaweed extract.... except Nettle is what I call "land kelp" and is plentiful around me and I don't live by the ocean :)
[You can see my nettle collecting and fermenting methods in my blog, so this post doesn't get too out of hand]

While my soil cooks I still add some Epsoma Garden Tome and about a 1 tablespoon of dried nettle per CF of soil

In flower, I water with nettle extract from time to time as well as copious amounts of Coco Water! This seems to help my mag/cal, [I ran out over the last 60 days and I have noticed a lot more yellowing than usual over those 60 days] and I also put down another teaspoon or so of dried nettle in week 2 or 3 of the flip and then add a little layer of compost. Thats it.

@caretak3r

As far as the bonsai, I am running a perpetual grow, so I shove 12 plants into 3.5 sq. ft [my big cab].

I usually FIM the 2nd node on new cuts and 3 or 4 more after, not do too many or it will stretch all over the place in the 1st few weeks of flower and crowd.

After I stop FIM'ing and let it veg [3 weeks] I just start bending and shaping branches, somewhat tenuous, but my preferred method. I used to tie and use weights, lol, but my fingers and repetition suffice

My canopy is setup to resemble a scrog like shape no doubt. I have a good light spread that covers the entire canopy with fair intensity.
I trim out larf from the undercanopy @ 1st, 3rd and 5th weeks. Sometimes I find new growth that late, plants are amazing! On most strains I leave about 3-4 crotches below the main cola and any thing else is baby smoothed, leaves too!.

I have 4x new Cob's incoming, so I am hoping to continue building on what I have learned :peace:

cool - i mostly forget to train until things get out of hand :) Regarding soil, I've tried various hydro and passive hydro. What I've landed on is a combo of coco, peat, perlite, and diatomaceous earth with OC+ crf nutes. I add in some ironite and sometimes epson salt. This mixture allows me to water straight tap without having to adjust PH for a simple 'just-add-water' approach. Some day I'll get to organic soil.

Tonight is winding down but a good night picked some new hardware for the Arsenal tonight....2 Cree Cxa 3070Ab cobs. The holy grail for efficiency right now!
