Skinny Plant

Hey guys,
The search function is broken so I can't really see if my question has already been answered and I didn't see it in the FAQ's.

I'm doing a super budget grow. I'm just trying to see if it's even possible for me to have a green enough thumb. So I threw some beaners in some pots that I now keep in an aquarium and have constant light on. But, the plants are about 8 inches long with very little leaves only on the top. I had a fan blow on them so as to strengthen them. Can these still be saved? Any tips for next time?

Further more I was transplanting one last night and it broke.... probably a male anyways.... I'll keep telling myself that.....

can you set them up on something to get them closer to the light? What kind of lights are you using and some pics would really help you get better advice.

Clamp on shop lights at Wal-mart are $5.44, the Y splitter is $2 and some odd cents and 2 daylight CFL's (look for blue packaging, green packaging is the wrong spectrum for vegging) are around $8, at least at my wal-mart........

I just try to add a new piece everyweek. This week I went ahead and picked up a light, next week, bulbs and Y splitter.

I can feel a string of uber newb questions coming..... What about LED lighting, not that I have any more access to that over CFLs just asking.

I can not answer that question, I've never used LED lighting, but go to the indoor growing section and check the threads there, I bet its come up before.

Led lights arent that efficient because they can get really hot and they don't have that much more lumen output than CFL's, so you cant have LED lights as close to the plant as you could with CFL's. I'd think your best bet would be to go with the CFL's

Right on, I was thinking thats about 3-4 dollars for a string of 5 and then I just need to wire them in a circuit and buy a power supply (probably just some batteries) and then I'd have a bunch of really bright light.

If you guys suggest CFL thats how I'm gonna do it. TO WALMART!

Should I just start over??

No I would still go ahead with that plant, if it's alive it has hope to it. You could always start some additional seeds. I wouldn't recommend only growing one. I had 3 males out of 5, so it's always good to have a few.

Check out a thread called "the bananna method' it's about ethelyne gas creating a larger ratio of females.

Don't buy soil that already has nutes in it, that is bad for your plant, always use plain soil and no nutes until it is 4 weeks old at least and then start with 1/4 strength. Look for something with high nitrogen, the label will have 3 numbers on it, like 12-6-6 the first number is the nitrogen content, high nitrogen is what is needed for vegging. For flower look for a higher second number 18-24-16 (these are just the numbers on what I'm using for example), don't give flower nutes until it has shown gender though.

It's a safe enviroment with an already established light source. I fail to see how this is a bad thing, coming from the stand point of someone whom is just testing the waters, or so to speak.

Misshestermoffitt, you have been an extreme help this morning! I appreciate everything! Your a plethera of knowledge that the community here is lucky to have. At this point I'm gonna get some brighter lights on them asap and just ride the ride. If they pull through thats cool if not that will just give me time to build a better area for my plants and start all over again.

Thank you guys again and if they pull through I'll let you know.

Hey guys, want to bump it up and let you all know that I revamped my grow area and I currently have two very healthy plants growing, with more on the way.....I hope. This weekend I'm going to revamp again and get some CFL in there, but I have to say after I got the plants closer to light source itself, they took off.

Thank you guys for the help, happy growing.
