Six lights for six plants. Organic No-Till 4400 watt indoor grow

Haven't been able to grow since 2015, finally was blessed with the opportunity to start up again.

I've been living in small mobile homes for the last few years, so growing was never even an option for me. However, the place I recently moved into has a 10x15 shed that's wired for 40 amps. Not only that, but there's a 50 amp RV hook up right next to the shed, and even another nearby outlet outdoors wired for 20 amps leaving me with a plenty of power to do something bigger than I've ever dreamed possible.

I've started with 15 seeds as of yesterday, each in 2 gallon pots. The clover has been doing rather well in the pots for the last 3 weeks or so that the box has been in operation. The soil in the pots were fed with a weekly dose of liquid seaweed, TM7, Growers Recharge, and Ful-Power, in smaller doses than recommended. So within a few days I should have some sprouts going :)

The 15 plants will not all be going in the room, as I'll only be using one plant per light in a no-till scrog set up. So the 15 will be narrowed down to 6. The 15 seedlings consist of 7 different strains, some of which I have experience with and others that are new to me.

- Amnesia Haze
- Green Crack
- Purple Trainwreck
- Blueberry Headband
- Kush Bomb
- Cluster Bomb
- Berry Bomb

I've run the HSO strains in the past outdoors and was very pleased with the results in both quality and yield. The other 4 strains are completely new to me, but were chosen due to their heavy yielding genes that will all provide wonderful flavor for the various concentrates I'll be making.

Thanks for reading :)

Some before and after pictures of the shed.

I removed all of the junk for it and completely demoed the shelves and pretty much everything but the frame. As it stands, this is pretty much how it looks at the moment. I'm waiting until Friday when my insulation gets her to finish the room. I have plenty of time though seeing as I just popped the seeds yesterday. The walls will have a combination of R-11 and R-13 insulation and the roof will have R-21 in the rafters. They will then be covered with the double bubble insulation I'm waiting on, the reflective side facing the outside walls and the white side facing the inside of the shed. I have no way of getting drywall to my place, and the bubble insulation will help me put off having to spend $300 on drywall (small town, $15/sheet).

Once the shed is finished, it will have a total of 4400 watts in a completely sealed shed. 4 600 watters in bat wing reflectors, 2 1000 watters in air cooled hoods. Each 1000 watter will have it's own 720 cfm inline fan connected to 8 inch insulated ducting, each fan pushing the air instead of pulling it, so as to avoid smell. I'll be supplementing with CO2 as well at 1000ppms. Humidity will be controlled via my humidifier's built in humidistat and cooling will be handled by the two 15,000 btu window air conditioners. May or may not end up being overkill, but I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it! Ruined many a grow in the past because I've cheaped out on cooling and insulation!

All 6 plants will be in 30 gallon geopots filled with 25 gallons of soil, CC's mix to be precise. Equal parts peat/EWC/aeration (perlite and lava rocks for me). The castings will be a combination of castings my worm farm provide, supplemented with castings I bought online. The 600 watters will cover 3x3 screens, the 1000 watters covered 4x4 screens.

Stay tuned :D

100 squares as in 100 sqft? The general rule of thumb for choosing a grow light for flowering is making sure you have 50 watts per square foot at the minimum. Indicas will be fine with 55-60 watts per square foot, however a sativa would prefer 60 to even 70 watts per square foot. However, when calculating square footage for your lights you want to factor for the space the plants themselves are actually using and not the entire room itself.

So what I recommend you do is using the following equation to determine the maximum amount of sqft your light will cover;

Total watts/required watts per sqft.

Indicas like 50-60 watts per sqft and sativas like 60-70 watts per sqft. So let's use a 600 watt HPS light for this example.

Total watts (600 watt HPS)/ required watts (60 for indica/70 for sativa) = max square footage your light will efficiently cover.

Using a 600 watt light to cover a 4x4 space wouldn't be as efficient as using it to cover a 3x3 space because 600/16 (4x4) = 37.5 watts per square inch, nowhere close to the 50 watts the plants require. Sure you can fill a 4x4 area with nugs, but they won't be as dense as they would be in a 3x3 area because without a minimum of 50 watts per sqft then your nugs won't fill out nearly as much as they would if they had enough light. However, 600/9 (3x3) = roughly 66.7 watts per square foot. So, to give you a rule of thumb for flowering wattages..

400 watt = 2.5x2.5 = 64 watts per sqft
600 watt = 3x3 = 66.7 watts per sqft
1000 watt = 4x4 = 62.5 watts per sqft

This also demonstrates why the 600 watters are the most efficient, they provide the most wattage per sqft. When we do the math it's easy to see why so many people recommend using 600 watt lights.

However, LED lights are completely different from HID lights. I've yet to grow with LEDs, however I plan on doing so as soon as I can to get an idea of just what it is that they can do. Unfortunately I have limited knowledge when it comes to LEDs, however what little knowledge I do have about them may be of service to you.

The main thing you want to look for with LED lights is the true wattage, not the total wattage.

Let's take this random light I found on Amazon for example.

https://www.amazon.com/VIPARSPECTRA-Reflector-Spectrum-Indoor-Plants/dp/B01B4GQ6MO/ref=sr_1_4?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1490818423&sr=1-4&keywords=led+grow+light

It says it's a 300 watt light, however in the description you'll notice that it only uses 136 watts making the true wattage 136 watts and not 300 watts. So, for this light, you'd want your plant to be in a 1.5x1.5 sqft area.

Another thing to consider about LED lights is that they use different colored diodes to replicate a wider light spectrum than HPS lights are capable of replicating. So although this particular LED light only uses 136 watts, the plant is able to use ALL 136 watts because of the fact that all of the light is in the spectrum for plants to absorb. However, when it comes to HPS lights, not all of the light they put out gets absorbed by the plant. I've seen a ridiculous amount of grow journals that involve people achieving 1gpw to even 1.5gpw with LED lights, however there are plenty of skilled growers that are able to achieve 1gpw+ with HPS lights as well.

Again, this is really all that I know about LEDs so I can't exactly be as helpful as someone with more experience than myself.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I've always felt that grow journals were for sharing experience/knowledge with one another. I certainly don't know everything about growing and never will. The only way one can become truly stupid is to believe they know everything, because that is when you stop learning and you hit your peak.

Whitebb, id soo..........how rude, of Kratos.............confused the F outta me
You come into my thread, make a post that contributes nothing to the thread or anything for that matter, criticizing me for an icon that I've used since 2012. And then you have the audacity to call me rude?

I don't even.

First its rude to hijack a thread. Start your own thread. Second I don't understand what you are saying.
Lol. I am sorry that I was made you misunderstood me cos my English ability is limited, so I am shy to ask u question. But thank u for help me solve the problem.

But you haven't been using it and I have. People know.me by it.
So that gives you an excuse to act like a child? Do you really have so little going on in your life that you find it necessary to repost every single last one of my comments?

I don't want to report you, but if you continue I won't be given another option. I will not stop posting/change my icon (that I've probably had longer than you) because you are upset. And I mean come on man, really? Roll one up and chill my man.

As for the grow, nothing much to report as of yet as it's only been a few days since popping the seeds. Just a matter of keeping my soil alive and waiting :)

Temps have been constantly steady too, the place I'm at happened to have a spare portable a/c that has no trouble maintaining a 75 degree average throughout the day.

I've never really been able to afford much in the cooling department before, so I'm beyond thrilled. :D

As for the shed, I managed to get some of the insulation up today. Trying to get as much done as I can by Friday when the bubble insulation shows up. I got the walls taken care of, but the roof is going to wait until the other insulation shows up because I want the roof to be the most insulated with how hot our summers get where I'm at. I'll be putting the bubble insulation against the outdoor facing wood, covering that with the R-21 insulation, then covering that with more of the bubble insulation.

I'll be sure to post pictures of my progress when I get home from work tomorrow :)

Got home from work a little while ago and, as promised, I've uploaded some photos of my progress with the insulation. :D

Managed to get all of the walls that are 15 inches wide insulated, however I'm going to need another roll of insulation to get all the little spots next to my air conditioners. Whoever build this shed didn't make all of the studs 15 inches apart, so insulating it is going to be a bit of a pain in the ass. Going to be a pain in the ass cutting the insulation to size, but it's gotta get done!

Please excuse the mess, between work and the family I'm fortunate to have more than a few hours at a time out here. Fortunately for me, the Mrs. is just as excited about growing again as I am, if not more so :P

The 10 sheets of R-21 I recently purchases for the roof, once I get my package tomorrow I'll be spending the day in the shed finishing up the insulation and hopefully making some progress with getting all of my equipment installed.

Slowly but surely it's finally starting to come together!
