Simple spider mite roundup method

I was just talking to a botanist who gave me the most common sense method to get rid of spider mites. Apparently they love a good melon more than anything. So, you take a piece of Cantaloupe and put it atop a steak over each plant. Leave it for the day and when you go back all the mites will be sucking on it. Then you take it and do whatever you want with the little bastards. It's not like they can run away.

Nope, haven't tried it yet. Thank fully I have no mites but it's early on my first grow. This person has been around the greenhouse biz for a while and seemed dead serious. Trust me, I've also got some dockotr doom bombs, zero tolerance and neem oil laying around. But, in flower can you think of a better way. Heck, you know what would be a good experiment is to put the pieces of melon around your house or in a crawl space just to see what kind of enemies might be lurking.

just to point out; most neem extracts do not kill mites, they deter them. add a lil dish detergent to your mix, and watch em squirm ;).

I use it with a drop of dish soap and a sprinkle of garlic powder and a dash of hot sauce. pulled plants from room and placed on porch to expose to cooler temps plants turned dark purple and mites have seemed to have reduced . I tossed a piece of melon in the closet overnight before cleaning and found 2 adult spider mites on the cantaloupe. I will from time to time place a slice of melon just to see what I may not be finding
