I am about to start growing in a 6ft. by 5ft. shed using a 4 by 4 tray and using a drip irrigation system. The tallest part of the shed is 5 feet. I was just wondering if a 1000 watt light would do good. If not what should i go with. It would be an aircooled hood. Also with only 5 feet inside what size plants would i be looking at. looking at putting in maybe 10-12 plants? Thanks.

you think a 600 will yield the same as a 1000? what issues will i run into if i go with the 1000? I talked to the guy at the hydroponics store and he suggested going with a 1000 watt for a 4 by 4 tray. I was thinking of the 1000 watt just cuz I had been told id get more weight that way

Have you looked into a SOG grow. That is the way for you since you don't have much height. Just remember at times you may need 24inch clearance from that bulb. That tray is probably going to be higher than the res. to prevent all the water syphoning out of the res. so u may run into some height issues. Figure the light to hang down atleast a foot, and your plants in pots on top of the tray on the res are going to be two feet aprox, and now light clearance, that leaves you with enuf room to gro your plants 1/2ft tall. Have you thought about a DWC setup. That will save you a few more inches since you grow right out of the res. You could also look into T5's, these are just as good for veg, but u lose a little in flowering, but in your case you would make out better since you can grow plants right under the bulbs(even if they touch its no biggie). This will also save you a couple more inches. Which will be a lot of bud when you multiply it by 30 ft squared

yeah i was thinking of going with a SOG grow. Was thinking if i should really go with the tray and the water reservoir or get a different type of setup. It will be my first time growing. Any recommendations since i really only have exactly five feet

DWC also known as bubbleponics. Do some research on that, you can grow out of 3 gal buckets right on the floor. You will know what I mean when u start your research. It is the easiest hydro system available for beginners. For a light I would reccommend a 600 watt like the guy said above . T5 flourescents are also a possibility as they dont transfer heat. Both of these things will save height for more bud. Personnally I would, and I am about to do in April, a SOG grow by DWC, using a 600 watt HPS Hortilux bulb. You should have plenty of height that way and you dont have to use a 4x4 tray.

Here is how to make a simple DWC for ten to twelve plants You could get two rubbermaid 20-30 gallon totes, and 12 3inch net pots. U will cut 6 holes in each tote lid, each hole to fit one three inch net pot. Plant your seeds in 1 inch rockwool, place in net pot and fill the rest of the net pot with clay pellets. Start them out in a humid area and once you see roots coming through by the net holes you will have 12 holes in your 2 rubbermaid tote lids to put them in. Inside the tote is your water res. The res has an airstone in it and it is continously being pummped with air to oxygenate the water. An airpump cost $20 at walmart, the totes are about $5 and airstones $2. The hoses you need are $10 AT Home Depot. The air splashes water around inside the res which ends up wetting the roots with an aerated solution. There is no maintanance really other than PH checks and topping off the res evry day so it is within an inch of the net pots, and there are very few things to go wrong since you only have to depend on an airpump. Just keep the water temp between 65-70 aprox or you will have root rot or roots will just die. Good luck.

decided to go with a 600w aircooled and got a 3x3 tray that i will water Drip to waste. thinking of going with 18 plants. only have 5 feet. the light and hood take up one foot and the tray with the pots another foot. so i have three feet to grow in. will veg till plants are maybe 10-12 in then flower them.
