From the Seedsman website: Afghani No 1 is a traditional landrace strain collected in the mountains of Afghanistan by Sacred Seeds in the 1970s. It was one of the first pure indica true-breeding strains used in worldwide cannabis breeding programmes. It is well known for its dense buds, copious resin production and its excellent properties for hashish production. This strain has been acclimatised to western growing conditions by selectively crossbreeding various Afghani No 1 parents and selecting offspring plants with favourable traits. The popularity of Afghani No 1 can be seen through its use as a genetic building block in many predominately indica strains created or preserved within the Sensi Seed bank gene pool and other seed companies. Afghani No 1 is a vigorous growing yet small bushy plant, with a strong stem that is renowned for its strong aroma when flowering. Its classic indica properties and true-breeding nature make it an ideal indica parent plant.

Here there are, 11 days from planting in soil after an overnight soak. Both seeds sprouted quickly and vigorously with no issues. Both shed the seed coat with no help and emerged with healthy seed leaves.

I've read other threads where people are able to sex a plant based on pre-flowering characteristics. Anyone care to show-off skills with these two? The one on the right is growing fatter faster. It is already showing multiple stipules while the plant on the left has only two stipules. Does this indicate male/female or is it just a speed variable within the strain?

The plant on the left looks better to me imo. Just gotta wait it out bro. There is always that one plant that matures fast!

Transplanted both into 1.75g and moved into 12/12.
:?: Hoping one is a girl and one is a boy. I really want to make some Afghan X Haze babies.

The faster growing, taller plant was a male. Showed first signs on 6/30. This one is at 19 days of 12/12 and still not showing. Guessing this is female.
You are likely right. Males always show about 1-3 weeks earlier in my experience, good job so far!

I have some Afghani freebies from Herbies, I'm hoping for 1 male and 1 female like you had. Want a male for pollen so crossing my fingers!

I hope this is a decent strain... today is now 20 days and still not showing. This seems like a long time to wait and unless she is something special I won't be able to justify keeping her around.

I started two other strains that already have pistils at 7 days of 12/12. They are now already two weeks ahead of the Afghani.

My last grow was Afghani Skunk, the link is in my signature below. My plants looked a lot like the one you have pictured above (similar leaf size, pattern, and color), and she got crazy frosty during the end. I just started my next indoor grow, this time just straight skunk, no cross. Anyways...Good luck, I'll be following along for sure.

This is about 20-25 days until harvest and she looks like a pretty average plant with small buds and low trich production. Hopefully these are some fat buds by the end of the next three weeks.

Cool thread! Thanks for posting. I wish more people would work landrace strains.

Landraces are not the frostiest strains. They are the best for vigor and health. They can also deliver some very cool terpene profiles.

I got gifted a local strain of a Pakistani line that has been worked for 30 years looking for the best producer. He calls it Pakistani Punch. Nice old school hash/incense smelling flowers.

Are you giving her a good bit of P and K? I think they also like high UV. This strain comes from high in the mountains where it is cold and the sunlight is not filtered as much from the atmosphere. I bet they would love LEDs.

Here is a picture of Akki (AK x Paki Punch):

Thanks for checking this out and sharing your experience.

I feel pretty good about my nutes, using lime for pH control and calcium along with molasses and epsom and Age Old Bloom.

I think they also like high UV.
A month or so back I swapped out (4) regular 3000k tubes and replaced them with Plant and Aquarium lights. Within days I could see the difference, with increased trich production showing regardless of the strain. The spectrum is much different with the new lights and includes a decent amount of UV.

Nice choice with the aquarium lights! That is what I have in my clone cabinet. T5 tubes:

Hey SwankyD, I've been watching your grow here. Kudos!!!!! Your Afghani's look great. I've got 2 about 6 weeks behind ya and 3 in the crazy Party Cup competition which should be fun, and maybe even provide us with more insight into good ole Afghani.

Great to compare progress. Do you have any pics of your male? I'd love to see them. I'm hoping for at least 1 male out my total 5.

Happy Growing!!!
Thanks,

Zo

Sorry, no more pictures of the male. I didn't have a feasible way to keep it around long enough to collect pollen.
