Seeds Crack but Won't Sprout

8 seeds so far, Joey Weed White Widow.

Soak in water, sitting in moist paper towel wrapped in suran wrap, next to warm air from computer vent.

They crack open, and the tap root immerges, and then stops growing! :wall:
I'm keeping them moist and in soil in case they're slow but damn! I've germinated plenty of seeds before.

Has this happen to anyone?!?!

Did you wait till the taproot was a centimeter in length? Or just when it cracked?

Have you planted them yet? Soil, hydro? Lights?

Need a bit more info buddy.

P.S.- Yes, I've had seeds that germinated but never sprouted... it happens... but for all 8 to have germed but not sprout...

this has happened to me a few times. when I see this happen with a couple seeds I just put the rest right in the ground as soon as they crack. I get a much higher success rate than if I had just left them in the towel, no clue how this works.

The first four cracked in the paper towel and I let them sit for a day or two, waiting for growth, before moving them to soil containers under a few 1500W CFLs. They never sprouted.

The next four I moved directly to the soil containers when i saw they all had cracked after 2 1/2 days in moist paper towel. All are under the CFLs now, under about 1/4" of soil. I check a couple of times a day. None are growing. Or if they are, it's very very slowly.

that's very odd. sometimes the paper towel can get infected with a bacteria that will kill the seeds very early. if your wet towel smells sort of pungent then this is surely the reason why they aren't growing.

o.k. but, i dont think that's it. i used pure drinking water, clean towels. i guess it's possible.

i've given my last two seeds to a friend to see if he'll have any luck with his method.

You believe that it's not enough for them to have cracked and have about a 1/8th" tap root? I'm just curious.

One thing I learned this season is to always put my seeds in a true seedling soil, not something rich like a Happy Frog. It makes a big difference for me.
