Seedling Questions : Bubbleicious (2 weeks)

Hey guys, got some of Nirvana's Bubbleicious seedlings going at the moment. These particular seedlings in the pictures are 2 weeks old.

I germinate straight in rapid rooters and a dome, when they sprout I put the rapid rooter in a party cup filled with 70/30 Peat/Perlite Soil Mixture (BCuzz Hyrdo Mix or something along those lines). There's no nutes whatsoever in the mix. They're currently under a 125W CFL/Wing Reflector, in a 4x4 Sunhut XL Tent. (I have some T5's on their way for veg.) You can see the temp and humidity in one of the pics.

Couple things buggin me about these seedlings. On the one, you can see one leaf is sort of half developed, and mutated looking. I'm not sure if this is b/c it's just still growing, or a problem with genetics, or what.

Also, both of these seedlings look like they're lacking something, as the leaves are kinda curling downwards around the edges and tips. They almost look wavy.

I've been giving them just a tad of water every other day or so, as needed.(Distilled/PH'd) Since there are no nutes at all in my mixture, can I go ahead and start a 1/4 or 1/2 strength feeding, or should I wait another week or two? Thanks for any input/advice/etc. *Oh yea, will be using General Organics line, if wondering.

Looks like you could be at the start of over watering, as far as the mutated leaves it could be from genetics or just because its fairly new growth. I seen somewhere that a nute deficiency could cause twisted or mutated growth not sure though.

I've had plants look like that when they were in their first weeks, some pretty mutant looking, and as they got older, they filled out normally.
Seems to me like a genetic thing, I may be wrong though...

I would definitely start a 1/4 nute if they're 2 weeks old, and there are no nutes in the growing medium.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I was thinking maybe too much water too, so how often and how much should I be giving these babies water? I usually just wait until the top inch or two is completely dry (takes about 2 days)...and when I do water, I only use a very little bit.

There's definitely no nutes at all in the medium, so I like the idea of starting a 1/4 solution this week also.

*Also, when should I transplant these? They'll be going into 3 gallon bags. I usually wait a month or so, but wouldn't mind another opinion.

Make sure you have good drainage in those cups, with plenty of runoff when you water. Bad drainage = root rot, and or drowning.
I'd transplant them right before they become rootbound, maybe in a week or 2 at most. 3 gallon is a good size to transplant into.

Actually, my medium says it has "starter nutrients", whatever that means. It has no NPK values on the bale or anything. I was looking for Sunshine Mix #4 and the guy @ the hydroshop turned me onto this mix (Atami BCuzz HydroMix HP). He said it's basically the same thing except the BCuzz doesn't have vermiculite in it. He also said the mixture had no nutrients in it whatsoever, but now I'm confused after seeing "contains starter nutrients". He said that the drainage on the mixture was plenty, and that I wouldn't need to add anymore perlite, but it seems to stay moist for a long time.

So given that this mix does have some starter nutrients, should I wait a bit longer to start a 1/4 feeding solution? I'm also a little confused about where to keep my PH with this mix, as technically, it's a soiless medium. I usually try to keep around 6.5ish, but now I'm thinking it should maybe be a bit lower. Anyone have any experience with General Organics' line? It says that PHing the nutrient solution is not necessary, can anyone confirm this? I'm guessing you still want to PH the water before mixing your solution though, right?

That soil with nutes in it is no good it constantly feeds the plant even if they don't need it, your PH is perfect at 6.5 so don't change that and they are still a while away from needing nutes I wait until 1 month is up or when the cotyledons (small round leaves at very bottom) fall off or start dying.

its your humidity in the room needs to be higher for them wavy leaves had the same problem then i got a humidifier and evap cooler and humidity at 40-50% and new growth great wit no waves

Doubt that as i have very low humidity on my plants and nothing wrong, also I would never take advice from someone on here with no posts or rep they are not a very reliable source for info I have seen some outrageous statements that they have made.

It's completely normal man. Mine do this all the time during their seedling stage. When they start working on their second set of true leaves, the first one starts to reshape itself. As long as new growth looks normal and no yellowing or burning your fine.

Firstly, thanks for all the good info and advice.

Now to the soil. I see a BUNCH of people that grow in soil either using Sungro's Sunshine Mix #4, or FFoF. From what I gather, both have starter nutrients in them. I always thought Sunshine #4 had no nutrients whatsoever in it, but apparently it has the "starter nutrients". When I went into the hydro store to get the Sunshine Mix, the dude said this B'Cuzz HydroMix HP is the same exact thing as Sunshine #4 w/o the vermiculate (from what I've gathered vermiculite retains water? So I don't want that anyways.) He also said "this has no nutrients whatsoever in it." But now that I look at the bale labels, it says "contains starter nutrients." just like the description for Sunshine #4. I mean, I know to stay away from the actual full blown nutrient soils like MG, Scotts, etc. But I think this mix will be fine, although the way it's holding moisture atm is confusing. It's advertised to be a very "airy and porous mix, with excellent drainage", but it's holding good weight and moisture for 4-5 days just in party cups. Is this because the plants are still young, and not taking in much water yet? Watering once a week seems like too little to me. Once I do start feeding, every 2 weeks just doesn't seem enough to me.

Watch the 'how to grow' series on you tube. He only waters at day 6 and then day 10. Starts nutes on day 13.

Sunshine mix 4 says it contains water for the first three watering a. Maybe start adding 1/4 strength nutes after 3rd watering

Hey ThurgoodJ. gkjuggalo got it right referring to the humidity. Dj1209 responded to his question, but I think gkjuggalo was referring to your humidity not his. A humidity ranging from 16 to 29 as seen in the picture is way to low. Along with the low humidity your temps reaching 82 are a bit high and if the reading is taken on the floor next to the pot it could be even hotter at the canopy of the plant. Make sure you also have air ventilation and circulation for a good environment. You already have decent plants in a poor environment. Improve the environment and they will look even better. Good Luck!
