What an exhilarating few weeks it's been. I began research on May 2nd, all in place by May 31st (or so I thought). I converted a master bedroom closet into something different. Born was a 3 x 3 x 8 Mylar lined grow room with 6" Tjernlund inline duct fan, fan speed controller, thermometer/hydrometer, 600 watt digital ballast with cheap wing reflector and decent MH/HPS bulbs, seeds, germination cups, fabric bags of 1, 3, and 5 gallon variety, all nutes, pH testers, distilled water, all in place.

May 31st, the big day, full system test. Closet temps with door closed soared to over 90F, I was crushed and hit the bar shortly thereafter. A couple drinks later, I said I'm not giving up and starting researching LEDs. By that evening, I'd ordered a Mars Hydro II 900w equivalent LED. By Wednesday I said screw it, I'm dropping seeds, the LED will be here Friday and it's going to work. UPS rescheduled delivery for Monday, while my first seed broke ground Saturday morning! Luckily I had both CFL and compact LED grow bulbs on hand. The rest has been a ride. It's new territory in every way, but it's so rewarding. Regardless of outcome, this has been such a rewarding experience. I fully understand how people love gardening and farming now. The thought of a successful harvest, let's just say it's ever present, the hope and dream.

The Stuff (most of it)
  • Mars Hydro II 900w (400+ watt actual) "full spectrum" LED
  • Barney's Acapulco Gold 80% Sativa seeds, 5ea
  • Fox Farm Trio for soil and FF solubles
  • Cal Mag
  • HM Digital PH and TDS pens
  • Sunshine Mix #4 and Perlite
  • Fine vermiculite for seed germination
  • Solo cups, seedling mat
  • RO water from the thing in Wal-Mart
  • PH UP/Down
  • trays, cups, jars, some painted for seed storage (I bought several strains), and more

I topped above 3rd node then watered about three hours ago and plants seem to be doing fine. They're standing firm with no signs of stress. Lights out in 45 minutes, back on when I wake, our sleep schedules are the same. I expect to have room for four 5 gallon fabric pots, but will not let the 5th go to waste. I've already selected a guerrilla grow location and plan to use Coir block and Fox Farm Marine Cusine. A month late for my region but I have to try.

So far I've been blessed, from germination to topping, my babies seem hardy and are thriving. I'll update along the way. I plan to veg for ~25 days and not top again, I hope for tall plants and can hit them with additional LED lights under canopy.

Come one come all.. please feel free to comment or ask questions. So many of you helped me already, in posts new and old. I owe you thanks. Stay tuned..

Morning after topping and all look healthy. Granted these are the first plants I've laid eyes on, but this strain seems hardy! I read topping slows growth temporarily, but I have a feeling I'll come home to new growth. Morning pics, perhaps someone can identify what I've highlighted in red, what is that?

A shout out to vets and those who don't post in noobs grow journals, oh and a shout out to Barney's Farm.. even if I'm doing everything right, these things are freakin beautiful, good genetics for sure. They've been hardy and healthy thus far, fingers crossed, bellies rubbed, hands clasped for continued success

Overall looking really great.
I would personally try and add some k and metals, maybe some greensand or something more immediate, whatever. Just barely a little hungry

Good luck. Never grown barneys but been growing landrace central american sativas for ~15years my favorite.. hope she turns out like a real sativa for you

I topped above 3rd node Monday evening, absolutely slowed growth through Wednesday evening, nice Y shaped 1/2" stems with bushy green as of now. Just under new stems are two that are also growing out in y shape with same look up top. Any thoughts will those produce main colas as well?

I transplanted 4 into final 5 gallon fabric and did a guerilla grow this weekend for the 5th. Funny what I was able to carry in, def not a long hike as I chose a wooded lot behind an industrial complex. Ass end no housing and long drive back but only 400 yard haul. I know the area well, deer are more a concern than people. Took a gallon of my own piss and hair clippings. :)

Dug a nice hole, filled with coco, saohagum peat natural soil, and FF Marine Cuisine, last minute anti deer idea with tomato cage. I twined up the big openings after pic. amazing sun most of the day. Ideally I'd have done this two months ago, worth seeing what happens tho. I plan to improve the look for more blending, starting with removing the cage when possible

29 days since seeds hit water. I've made some rookie mistakes along the way like overwatering, LED too close, and probably transplanting too quickly, but they're managing and I'm learning to calm down, this shit takes time. Lower leaves were talking to me but new growth looks great. Getting busy after topping. Hoping they shoot up now that I'm done messing with them. Pics after misting just before lights on. I swapped the long thin cables provided by Mars Hydro for jack chain which gave me at least 8 inches more for light raising. They could go at least 6.5' comfortably now. A couple pics after misting, lights on in five :)

And a quick check on my outdoor girl shows brilliant coloring and nice growth. Funny this girl was first to pop, but stayed low with super tight 1st - 3rd nodes. She's shooting up a few great sun days and two short rain storms ugh I was worried. Go girl ;)

think I messed up the first set of big leaves with too much Cal Mag (foiler iron overdose), and light way too close for seedlings so off they went, new growth busy as hell needs to climb anyway. Tomorrow am some love to outdoor girl

Outdoor girl looking good, I'll be trying SM-90 for pest control, many say it works plus enhances root growth. Meanwhile indoors I have my new camera, I'm hoping to zoom on good bud shots to see trichomes. I have a cheap 60-100x scope otherwise. Wow these girls are starting to show purple again. All seedlings had purple stems till 1st node then they went green. Very cool interested to see what happens. :bigjoint:

Some hot days with all day sun outdoor girl making four main colas like indoor sisters. Getting advice on tying/training indoor girls to work on height now. Flipping to flower within two weeks
