dry sift wizard tek= not sure what this is??? please explain if ya dont mind. Interesting thread will be hanging around.

The idea is stacking screens that are of a specific size. The first screen allows the trichromes and small bits of plant matter and pistilate hairs to fall through. The pistilate hairs and other contaminates are typically not round in shape and become lodged or turn sideways as they fall and hit the second screen witch Is of smaller size than the first leaving you with pure resin heads that fall through. You have to carefully remove the work screen then place the contaminate screen on another collection pad the first collection pad if you did it right and did not bump the screens will be 99% resin glands. Take the 2nd screen and flick the screen 6 times evenly apart that will be your "b grade sift" about 80% heads.

Very cool. I've been wanting to get into this for some time now. I run a 8 bubble bag setup and like/enjoy it, but i'd love to try this. What size screens should i use and where can I get them. All the shops in my area don't have anything nearly that large. Thanks again.

@hyroot Hey bud I knew I'd see you in here. lol Hope things are well.

Search dry sift wizard he has a site and sells the screens in several different sizes.

The ui of each screen is the wizards "trade secret" he gets them custom made in a specific ui or lpi mesh.
Several people have tried to imitate this tek using almost the same screens but fall considerabley short of the 10 seconds to full melt.

I'm finding lower temps are much better if you can get decent pressure. I never go over 220f, usually staying around 200f using heating plates from a $4 thrift store hair iron and a $16 harbor freight vice:

PICT0391.JPG

As you can see, I wired the plates to a PID from a desktop vape, but they work great if you just tear the body off the hair iron and use the built in temp controller. The point is to maximize the force applied to the plates so you don't need so much heat. That's what gives the "ABV" taste, as you are literally vaping off terps at 300f.

Also, you can see I have my plates vertical. The paper in the pic is just for show, when I press I put the bud in the crease then fold the parchment over the top of the bud so the oil can only flow out both sides, away from the heat of the iron. A curious mind could search out "burrito tech" or "enchilada tech" for some cool paper folding ideas.

Because of the lower temps and the oil staying away from heat, I usually end up doing long (30s-1min) single presses on .5g nugs pressed flat with the iron before heat up and get around 15-25% return on flowers, highly strain dependent lol

I don't have time atm to read this thread, but I think rosin is taking off enough to invest in. We should have a nice machine by spring and I will be posting a lot of rosin and bho on here. Extracts are the trend of the industry.

nice work

I need to score a better/bigger flat iron. this skimpy 1/2" one isn't cutting the mustard. im only able to press about 1 decent vape hit at a time.

I started with the $17 Revlon Perfect Heat 1" iron from a box store, it worked really well for me. I've since discovered that most local thrift stores have several to choose from for <$5, so I just go scrounging when I need a new one. I like to get 2-3 if I can, for parts or new ideas lol

Has anyone else been doing a lot more dabbing since learning how to rosin? Game changer for sure. I finally found some great yielding strains.... It's rewarding to get a nice dab out of .25 herb, but I am still trying to figure out how to bump up production rate.... Waiting for d-nail press to be available....

Also have Buddha s Delight, CBDGOG, an Quin n tonic to pop someday. My sweet and sour cookies has sour pez #3 as mom as well as used sourpez male to make my pez berry sour. Like la Plata labs gear very much

AFAIK those presses are best for pressing hash, as they don't provide enough pressure for pressing flower. I think they only put out about 7-900lbs force over a 5x5 square so not nearly enough for flower IMO
Thank you. Good to know.
Do you know what kind of pressure I need for flower? Pressing kief may be ok, but I'd def like the option to do either.

The custom presses I've seen built were in the 5-10 ton range, but not always used at full power. I think a hair iron in a bench vise sees about 2k lbs, that's plenty for me to get good yields. Another good powerful build is basically a bottlejack in a box frame, you can buy car jacks in multi-ton capacity for very cheap.
