Rosin Press? Which one is the best?

I know it's still a new industry. But I saw this one:

...and tried to contact the seller....Obviously in China and was extremely difficult to communicate with. They would not tell me the price. It's probably junk, anyway. I like the automation that machine has, though -at least in design.

I really don't want to try and use a curling iron to make rosin. I'm afraid I'd press to hard, break it and get electrocuted! I want a real machine, but I'm not about to send my money off to China to a company that has no employees who really understand English. And the converted t-shirt presses are not all that appealing, either. They seem kinda clunky and look like they might lose pressing power after awhile.

I'm not opposed to a DIY involving an arbor press or something....but I'd need a clear tutorial on "How To..." and a source for the heating plates...ones that won't crack under pressure!

Any new things hitting the market soon in the way of rosin press machines?

If this is just for personal use, start with hair straightener and go from there. They are cheap and your concerns of electrocution are misplaced. If you cobble together an arbor press solution down the road, you can take the hair straightener apart and use it as an inexpensive heating element for your bench plates that get welded to the press.

There are some other rosin threads showing examples of cobble job presses but if you aren't sort of handy already, it may be better to purchase something.

What's the next upgrade from the hair straightener? Looking to produce rosin for personal use but can't have a big press needs to fit on a bathroom countertop

Then perhaps use a straightener with 600lb hand clamp or an arbor press? They have 1 ton presses at Harbor Freight at a good price. I personally use the dewalt hand clamp and get good results/yields depending on the strain.

You attach bench plates to the arbor press and use the hair straightener heating pads to heat the bench plates. I was able to attach the heating plates to the bench plates with high heat epoxy. Note - high heat epoxy will not work for connecting the top bench plate to the arbor press, you need to weld this.

Theyve got a compressor press at a weed club out here. Not suyre on the psi but it only yields a tiny bit more than with a wide plate hair straightener and those quick release hand crank clamps.

Bet rosin ive made is from bubble hash, bud is ok but a bit herbally toasty, even at 140C and 8 or 10 sec press.

Note - high heat epoxy will not work for connecting the top bench plate to the arbor press, you need to weld this.

Thamn thats a fine idea! Would the hair straightener plates handle a ton of pressure though?! Id prolly weld a thin iron plate to the top part of the press to distribute pressure more evenly on the heating plate, sort of the same principle as having a car drive over your foot or a woman with high heels thin heels step on your toes.

yes, I showed this to bugeye, he glued his on with high heat epoxy. In the back, you can't see it, but The hair straighteners heat adjusters are still there so you can adjust the heat.

Oh man, you haven't tasted the full potential of rosin yet, you gotta get those temps lower. You can press bubble hash out at half the temp your're doing and buds will press out really tasty at 90-95C. I don't need the arbor press at all for doing bubble hash because it does not need much psi. Where the press really works great is on buds where you really do need the extra pressure to extract at lower temps.

One thing you can try to get your hair straightener temps lower is to buy a $10 plug in dimmer switch at a hardware store. Or you could press your hash after unplugging for a bit.
