Roots need O2, right? Oxygen supercharging a DWC. Need help.

So this may be a little "out there," but I really need a respective answer on this one. I do quite a bit of welding at my work, and it got me thinking. Roots need O2 correct? Well what would happen if I was to take and hook my Oxygen from my cutting torch, and (regulated of corse) into my air system in my recirculating DWC. Just moving my intake on the air pump to outside made a difference, and the thought of one little parasite getting through the filter makes me sick. So to put air from inside, charged up with O2, sounds like a good plan. Thanks for any shots at this for me.

well..my understanding is..roots need oxygen and leaves need CO2 which then the leaves turn that into oxygen.

thats why they say your grow room needs plenty of air circulation..so the leaves can pull the CO2 in the air and use it.

your roots will only use so much o2,so if you have enough air pumping in I dont think it will make much of a difference,on the other hand some say the more air the better?also the o2 in cutting torches is not purifyed like the stuff the medical world uses.so I guess if you dont mind lugging the tank around I guess it wouldnt do any harm. Im interisted in the results Im a welder by trade and have a few tanks laying around to use up if its worth it

You'd spend so much money on oxygen because in DWC air pumps run constantly..

Interesting concept though.

The o2 is pretty cheap. I hear you on the quality concept though. It would probably need to be the kine they fill my dive tanks with. Witch is quite a bit more $$$. I was just curious if there were a limit as to the o2 uptake by the roots more then anything. I think I have a problem of over thinking things. Sometimes "simple stupid" is the best anyways.

The waters o2 capacity is still governed by altitude, salinity and temperature. Even if you reach 10ppm dissolved oxygen you will still only be providing about 1% of the roots total needs. Simply leave an inch or so air gap between the net pot and water for air roots to form to take care of the rest.

I'd be more concerned about causing an explosion due to oxygen enriched atmosphere in your growroom.

The amount or OXY coming out of a Torch would burn up quick with the pump on all the time, but if you scaled the regulator down and used a smaller "Torch head" into your DWC with a timer, I don't see how this wouldn't "Supercharge" the setup!

Something like a timed C02 setup, but for OXY. Maybe every hour for 10 minutes or something to that effect?

Measurement of your "torch" output of oxygen VS. the Amount of OXY the plant's roots can absorb per hour would make it a little more scientific.

I am also a weed smoking welder, and to tell you the truth, this could be big.

Remember the guy that added a simple Airstone into his GH Waterfarm and saw a huge increase in Root mass?

I have found over the past few years that it is almost impossible to satisfy your roots oxygen needs during the last 4-5weeks of flowering. I have also been toying with the idea of adding straight o2 into my air system, maybe in like a burst form "for 5min every few hours or something"

IMO lack of Dissolved oxygen is a big hurdle in DWC systems.

So here are some questions I'm at now:
- how much oxygen is too much.
- what quality of o2 is given at my welding shop.
- will this be $ effective. Or just another piece of equipment the hydro shop tells you that you need.
- I have a meter that checks dissolved o2. I don't know what the ratio is optimal.

Design ideas:
- set my regulator at approx <10lbs, and set up a solinoid on a timer.
- I shouldn't need as big an air pump. Therefore saving any damage to roots from violent air bubbles

Anyone have any idea if this would work for an aero-ponics set up? If i run the oxygen in the same line as the mister using a regulator and a solenoid valve on a timer hitting them with pure oxygen everyone and while would it help them out?

I agree! If you saturate the atmosphere with oxygen you are asking for trouble. However, I have been considering doing this myself! I an running an aeroponic system with 7 gallon root chambers and am going to fill the chamber once every day or two. but with dwc you are moving the air out of the reservoir / grow chamber continuously so you would end up saturating the rooms atmosphere with O2.
I'd be more concerned about causing an explosion due to oxygen enriched atmosphere in your growroom.
