Root rot questions.

So I think I have slight root rot. The top of the roots where they are coming out of the top bucket into the reservoir are brown. It's not bad, but I don't want them to get any worse. How can I avoid that? I took out the B vitamin supplement and the beneficial bacteria and replaced it with 5 mL/gal of hydrogen peroxide and just toned down the amount of nutes I fed her. (I think the root rot came from over feeding). Temps are at 68 in the res right now. I put an air stone in the bucket now. (I'm using a waterfarm). Is there anything else I should be doing? Also, I'm using AN Voodoo Juice. Shouldn't that have helped prevent root rot?

Too much nutes... I was battling slime and rot too.. it was really the roots being burnt from too much of my sensi grow and causing the rot.

I just kept lowering until it stopped and then monitor it to adjust to plants needs (lower ppm next day more nutes - higher ppm next day just water) etc.

Now look at my roots :

While vegging I use voodoo juice and Aqua Shield.. then in flower its just Dutchmasters Zone to help the roots in my 5 gallon 3.5 gallon buckets.

Oh nice! Did you see any symptom in your plant because of it? Like stunted growth, ect.

I lowered my ppm's yesterday at reservoir change. What am I looking for exactly? Just for the brown shit to disappear?

Basically you're looking for nice, firm, white roots. Root growth should be seen everyday in DWC whether it was an inch or a few centimeters. So your new growth should appear white and healthy once the water conditions clear up ;) How old is your plant btw? More info you can give us = the more help you can receive from RIU'rz :D Rez changes are a good idea and if you have a sick plant imo, a rez change every 2-3 days wouldnt hurt. If it's in veg still then you wont need to sacrifice that much nutes in doing so ;) Remember a little bit goes a long ways when you're rocking hydro! Check your water temps and make sure your rez is as light-proof as you can possible get it. Cover up your netpot so just the plant is exposed to light. Wrap your reservoir in something or blacken it out somehow. Start at the basics and go from there. Stunted growth is still growth nontheless and if you're doing it justice then the plant will perk up over a short period of time. Good luck and happy growing mane!

Well I used some hygrozyme to eat the dead roots off first.. as well as dropped the ppm. Yea stunted growth and roots brown.. no burn on leaves but it was coming for sure.. ya less is MORE in DWC.

Sorry! It's about 30 days from seed, or week 3 into veg. I have noticed more foliage growth as well as more root growth. The new roots are as white as they can be, however, the brown crap on the roots hasn't disappeared yet. It's definitely not spreading and it seems to be slightly dissipating. This is good right? Temps are at 63 - 67. Should I add more hydrogen peroxide? Also, the air stone is making the roots swirl and twist together. Is that good or bad? Thanks guys!

lol Drip irrigation with a slight hybridization of a DWC. It's called a waterfarm with an air stone in the reservoir.

Here's the top:

Hey Tmac, what nutes are you using? Are you measuring pH and ppms? If so what are they reading at?

I don't know how the water farm is designed but I assume the reservoir is light-tight and the roots aren't being exposed to light on a regular basis?
What is the temperature of the nute solution in the res?

What sort of airstone are you using? Can you get any more air into the roots by adding another airstone or doesn't the waterfarm allow that?
The more oxygen bubbles you can push through your res, the more oxygenated the nute solution will be and this helps prevent root rot in general.

Not sure if your issue is related to any of the above but providing this info might help someone else to troubleshoot your situation further.

Your root system looks great imo. Definately making use of that bucket it's in. Do any of your nutes have a brownish tint to them by chance? My Root 66 and my Thrive Alives all have some tinting to them....roots may appear a light brownish from the dyes in em, but after a few days it usually disappears due to the roots eating it all. Wasnt sure, but figured id ask ;)

I'm not so sure about the health of Tmac's root structure. The pictures of the healthy white roots don't belong to Tmac's plants.

It looks like Tmac has roots growing but I can't see many feeding hairs on the roots which could mean nute uptake trouble.
If you look at the pics of the plants that Tmac posted they do look poorly. Leaves are looking dry and withered possibly due to the underdeveloped root structure not providing sufficent nutrition?

If you need to change your res every 2 or 3 days to fight a persistent problem then there is probably an important issue that needs some specific attention so that you don't have to rely on frequent res changes to resolve.

Not that I know what the answer is of course but that doesn't stop me adding my 2cents worth...

Hey Glo, I'm using Advanced Nutrients 3-part base, Voodoo Juice, and a B vitamin supplement. PPM's are around the 600 mark right now. pH usually floats around the 5.6 - 6.0 mark. The WF is light sealed and usually stays under 70 internally. I'm using a 6" air stone on a standard 5 gallon air pump. The temps in the tent were getting under 70 so I think that's why my leaves looked so poor. Now that I've set the plant closer to the light the temps have gone up to 77 and there's alot more lumen output. The leaves have perked right up. I'm using 15 mL of grow/micro, 5 mL of bloom, 7.5 mL of B-52 (B vit sup), and 5 mL of Voodoo Juice. Last reservoir change was Thurs night. No sign of any burn, and already drank 1/2 a gallon of nute sol. I'm also foliar spraying at 2 mL/L with the B-52 as well. Everything seems to be doing fairly well.

Awesome news Tmac.
Sounds like things are back on track then. Could be worth leaving the beneficial bacteria out and staying with the H2O2 for a little bit longer until you are really happy things are back on track.

Grow on bro!

That's what my main question was geared towards. Thanks for the advice. :)
