root rot and treatment

Some of my plants are starting to show signs of root rot.
the first 1/2" of some of the roots hanging from the net pots on a couple of my plants are looking rotted. they are brown in certain areas. I have also noticed brownish orange chunks of shit in my submersible pump filter. I think this is because of light getting through the res. I thought i did a good enough job wrapping my res with aluminum foil and duct tape. but apparently I haven't. I have fixed my Res and I'm sure its light proof now. and I removed the pump.

I know many people say you can treat the infected plants with Hydrogen Peroxide. But Ive been looking and searching the plant problem forum and the FAQ's but i cant find anything more on how much to use or how to treat the roots.

If anyone could shed a little more info on this subject I would be most appreciative.

Thanks in advance,
SJ

Here's a pretty recent thread on it: https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/311670-guide-hydrogen-peroxide-hydroponics-systems.html

What nutes are you using? You want to use H2O2 only with chemical nutes since it kills everything including beneficial microorganisms.

I tried some today for the first time with stellar results. The plants coming out of my veg cabinet are root rotting since I can't get the water under 72 in there. The gunk in the res and all over the roots was gone almost instantly.

Will FoxFarms tiger bloom work with H202?

Will FoxFarms tiger bloom work with H202?
Its mostly a chemical fert but has organic stuff in it.

From the FF website under Tiger Bloom description:
In addition to containing critical trace minerals, we brew our liquid fertilizer with earthworm castings and kelp meal for a biologically active formula.
That biological activity will be killed by the h2o2. The organic part of the fertilizer cannot be broken down into usable nitrates for the plant. Instead, you have a sterile soup of earthworm shit and chemical ferts.

H202 will be fine with any nutes really. However you don't really necessarily need it unless you know you are running a non-lightproof tank. How often do you change the rez? You are going to have to cut away those rotten roots and let the plants grow some new ones. You don't want that crap in your tank at all! I change the rez every week. Try making your rez light proof the best you can. That and high water temps cause that issue. If your water is running too warm/hot fill a water bottle 3/4 full with water and freeze it then dump it in the tank to keep cool water. Make sure when you clean the rez you clean the tub with vinegar or Peroxide, bleach works too, but make sure you get all of it cleaned out and dried before adding new water/nutes.

Thanks for the answers. I think i got the light proofing done and havent seen any more shit on my roots. I am using the techna-flora recipe for success starter kit. I think i added way to much h2o2. after i added it, I noticed the fan leaves on one of my plants started turning papery and cracking and curling. So i flushed it washed out the res rinsed everything and got it in plain water ph'd to around 6. gonna start up the nutrients again in a day or so. they havent been growing since I nuked them with h2o2 but I suspect they needed a couple days to recover.
