Rogue Pollination

What facts do we know about cross pollination of hemp to cannabis?

THeories: Hemp pollen can travel up to 3 miles and can pollinate cannabis,
Indoors grows with air filters can be affected, bee's can pass pollen to cannabis plants
What other factors come into play? Have you had experience growing close to hemp fields?

Humidity/moisture is going to be a big factor because water will destroy the pollen. Pollen is really fine and can be suspended in the air for a long time, I have been sloppy with washing hands and changing clothes after handling pollen and got a few seeds, curiously only on the plants that I rubbed against while walking around the room. The potential of massive hemp farming in southern oregon is upsetting a lot of growers right now. It sucks but I would rather hemp fields than clear cuts. I would say another factor will be with legal money made off of herb, there is some legitimacy in prohibited/restricting hemp production within certain areas. Curious though if the feds are backing off of everything, we'll be seeing more hemp produced locally.

Since in the USA, there are those chem-trail planes. I wonder what would happen if the good ol' govt decided to collect pollen from hemp grows and go spreading it around via planes just to fuck with marijuana growers, being legal or not.

hmm dirty harry I've come across that thought myself, but never posted it or asked others about that because I didn't want to give the idea to the wrong people... lol. Guess It's out of the bag.

I wouldn't worry too much about rogue hemp farms contaminating my grow unless I was within a 5 mile radius of one.. even though the pollen can travel a far distance, it doesn't mean that a lot of it will. You may get the odd seed here or there, but unless you are pretty close to a field of it, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Oh, and indoor grower shouldn't be too worried... just double up on your air filters or get a better hepa filter and you should be fine.

Indoor growers, if they don't already, should religiously shower and change into clean clothes before entering the space.

Monsanto will start claiming all rogue pollen is theirs, force growers to have their strains tested and pay genetic royalties if crops pull positives for patented Monsanto cannabis genetics. Some day, the air will be thick with tiny patents and trademarks and logos printed on chromosomes.

Fuck that thought is so dangerous I am so upset that monsanto is already doing that with all other known forms of food crops... how is it possible that this type of patenting is even legalized? They shouldn't be allowed to have patents on genetics and then be allowed to forcibly pollinate other peoples crops with their genetics... not right.. very wrong..
