I was wondering how is it possible for people to do full grows with big ass plants in 6" rockwool cubes without getting root bound??

people doing soil or hydroton or something recommend flowering in around 5gal pots yet people using rockwool are doing veg and flower in 6" cubes. how is this possible??

6" rockwool cubes are reasonably large and because of the medium they provide both moisture and oxygen in abundance. The roots have plenty of space within the cube to grow.

that looks like the 8" block in that picture but i get the point. im going to try 8 plants (even though i can have up to 12) under 2 600w in 7" square pots using the 1/4" rockwool grow cubes. i hope/wonder if theres enough space in the pots to last through the whole cycle

I may be wrong but 6" is the largest you get Pargro cubes in like in the image. I go 32 plants in a 8x4 tray but I do want to experiment a bit with a 24 and 18 plant count in the same space and see if it effects yields much. I can quite easily add a week or two of veg to the cycle to help them fill out that canopy spqce

Pargro is made by grodan. They're the cheaper brand with no frills and drain a little quicker

A LONG time ago I put some big rock wool slabs into a plastic window type planter and put a 6" cube on that. Roots grew through the slab and into the space under it in the window planter. The whole thing drained back to a rez and and intermittent drip fed them. It worked pretty well for what it was.
