rizla rolling papers taste...possible allergy??? (not weed related particularly, but...medical probably...)

If I understood correctly, you switched all 3 components at once; the papers, tobacco and filters. It's hard to determine which one is causing you issues. I suggest get a different brand of each part and interchange them until you narrow it down. It's also possible that you got an old batch. I used old papers and filters that became brown over the years, and they had a harsh taste like you describe. I also had a batch of tobacco that became moldy in just 48 hours.
Yeah that's why I'm asking about the papers specifically (especially with those reviews/slatings I posted)...I changed the tobacco and kept using the menthol filters, then I changed the filters because they started to taste nasty, I assumed they were too strong or maybe just didn't work with that brand of tobacco - but originally they didn't taste horrible, I just couldn't taste the tobacco at all through the menthol when I usually can...in fact, that Amber Leaf I find too strong a taste to not tame it a bit with menthol filters...

...but I changed all 3 within a couple of weeks after a couple of weeks only changing the tobacco 'cos I had leftover brandless "plus papers" from my old Amber Leaf (and after 7+ years of only having Amber Leaf, it takes a bit of getting used to...EDIT: but prior to 2015 I used to smoke real shop-bought Lamberts, and this baccy was a very close taste in the beginning - but not quite 100% the same...)

I might change back to Amber Leaf with the free papers for awhile...if it still tastes strange I've probably got something wrong that needs sorting out (or, maybe I can taste my gum disease for the first time now I'm on weaker tasting baccy and it's not affecting my tastebuds as much but has actually been like this for ages??? That wouldn't explain the dizziness/tingling though...)

Should I go back to my old baccy/papers/filters until the taste and strange feeling goes away then start again with the Zig Zag papers do you think? (I don't want to go back to Amber Leaf if I can help it 'cos since first "lockdown" in march 2020 it's gone up from £23:80 to £27.60 a pouch and I get through 2 a week...I only work part time, and that equates to a full shift at work extra cost per month)
The zig zag white pack r awesome should try them out

Rizla have been shit for a while, the silvers used to have chlorine in, and the blues weren’t the same after they changed the pack. This is going back 10 years or so.

Raw blacks are excellent.

As a kid in the 70's we would use Export papers, also known as Export blankets

Then we progressed to Chantecler papers (which were much thinner) but they are no longer available in my area

Then went to Zig Zag whites, which are good for a cigarette sized paper

Then I lived in Spain for a year and got introduced to OCB and Smoking (1 1/4 size) which are both decent, but I now only use RAW, as I don't want to smoke bleached papers.....I buy the 300 packs as they are priced much better.
