I quit cable about 7 years ago. I watch almost everything via HDTV over the air, I get about 50 channels including 6 PBS stations. I picked up a channel master dvr and it's every bit as good for recording and pausing live tv as the cable company's dvr. Everything else I pirate, usually via kickasstorrents or Piratebay. If you've got a vpn, you can pirate any tv show, movie, game, or program in existence without consequence. I LOVE today's tech...

I think it's a gold mine; lot's and lot's of documentaries and historical stuff: I watched all the Neandertal stuff(science based) and right now a serious historical account of Thermopyle

edit: @BarnBuster if you don't have it, look into it. Lot's and lot's of docs
I've been watching a lot of the docs made by soldiers on it. Good stuff.

Got the model number for that channel master? Does it only do digital or will it do analog as well?

We left out antenna when we moved. I was getting close to 40 channels from our local area and had a motor where I could turn it to other cities. Another 30 or so each from a couple o the cities. Mostly repeat channels but some were different.

I got my mom one of those 40 dollar motorized antennas off amazon. It picks up about 20 channels or so at over 60 miles.

Here's the link to the dvr - https://www.amazon.com/Channel-Master-DVR-Bundle-subscription/dp/B00J05QJPG/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1512447134&sr=1-3&keywords=channel+master+dvr

It only does digital. I have an older one from another company that will do analog. The cool thing about this dvr is that you supply your own external hard disk, so your memory can be as high as you'd like, and you can use a drive you already own. I think you can also upload programs to your pc from the external drive. I love it...
