Rice hulls in Michigan

Anyone? Having a hell of time sourcing

saw some at the grow show in AA last time i was down that way!

I have gotten them somewhere in east lansing, honestly can't remember the name of the store, will go through my receipts and look. Will post if I find one.. it's been a while since I have been that way, been using the grow show in A2...

Very few real organic grow shops,try some old feed stores that carry organics.

A grow show. Aa means ann arbor im guessing. Is this sometbing that happens often.

Grow show is a name of a shop. They're not referring to an actual show.

Just in case there was any question about that...

Build a soil sells them online. Probably a little more expensive but a viable option

Horizen Hydroponics in Grand Rapids carries PBR rice hulls. They have a place in East Lansing too that I've grabbed them from before. $15 for a 50lb bag.

St0w- how long do you see the hulls retain their shape? I'm wondering how long they can continue to act as an aeration component

Yes Horizon Hydro is where I got mine as well. Inexpensive , good quality.

Another +1 to Horizon in GR...bought a bale there and it lasted a couple years at my usage rate.

I don't believe they lasted past a cycle as an aeration component. When I recycled soil I always added more in subsequent batches at maybe half the original amount because they usually seemed pretty spent and squashed. But they were cheap, effective and organic!

Not sure Rrog. I've been using other items like lava rock that holds up longer in conjunction with the hulls. I read somewhere that rice hulls contain a fair amount of silica so I figure it's not totally a bad thing if they start degrading.

No doubt. I'm looking to see how long I can no-till or very minimally till a 25 gallon Geopot of soil. The aeration has to hold up for as long as I can get it.

Anyone using rotted wood chunks

I purchased a large sack from horizen. Any Homebrew beer store will carry them also.

I know this is old as hell now, but scrooge and barley carry them. That's where I'm getting malted barley powder.

Unfortunately I found the MBP the cheapest of anywhere I can find it here but the hulls are outrageous. 1.89 a lb.

An option for any small grower in Southeast MI but not for me with 20gal pots
