Review of the Source Turbo by Extract Craft

I was very interested in making my own cannabis oil, from my own or other clean product (ie. no pesticides). I was leery about using IPA from the get go but grain alcohol does not come cheap. When I saw some videos on this extraction method I was quite impressed about recapturing the ethanol, thus significantly reducing the cost.
After a few bumps in the road (learning curve) and a few setbacks trying to create a good vacuum I was finally successful. I used 35g of sugar leaves and the small amount of oil it produced was excellent quality. It smoked very smoothly and left me NOT wanting to smoke another for a while. If you have a specific question feel free to ask.
Pros:
  1. After it is setup and working you can walk away for a few hours.
  2. You recapture at least 50% of the alcohol used.
  3. This is a closed loop system using vacuum and very little heat, which makes it safe enough to set it up on your kitchen counter.
Cons:
  1. The crucible only holds about 500ml of QWET, so this is best for hobby use only, not commercial.
  2. Getting vacuum initially takes a bit of finagling and is the weakest part of the design. The need to make this process easier somehow.
  3. Using the ice tray on top to keep it cool can cause loss of vacuum if you use to much ice. It seems to break the seal if you remove it to add more ice.
  4. I am sure some people will find the high price is a con, but I feel it is worth every dollar, about $900 CDN
I am going to use 30g of flower from my homegrown for the next run to increase the yield.

A good machine! We have one as well. I posted the test that we ran on Skunk Pharm Research, but note by their new terms of use I can't post the link without permission, so if ya'll will wait until tomorrow when we launch The Alchemist Resource, I"ll post a write up on our test there as well.
The Alchemist Resource ???

This would be all I need in a setup/machine. I like the reclaim and vac part and do QWET also just the old school way.

Thanks for the encouraging words, and the Skunk Pharm website. There is some good info there. Please post alink when you get the write up on the test done.

Full disclosure: I run ExtractCraft. First of all, thank you very much for doing the review, all input is very appreciated and important to us. I would be happy to address some of the things you mention in your review if you would like? I don't want to bust in on the discussion without your approval.
Thanks for getting behind your product ... proactively. I am still experimenting trying to up my yield, finished a run today. I found a good trick to getting a good vacuum seal. I put a few drops of water on the bottom of the lid and use my finger to rub it around the rubber seal. Then I twist it around until it gives a bit of resistance, then I push down on it before I start the machine.

You can actually reclaim 95% of the ethanol that goes into the machine. You lose some to the plant matter in the wash but this loss is outside of the machine itself. If you want to reclaim some of that material you can actually put the plant matter in the cup and evaporate out the ethanol to get most of it out of the plant matter as well........efficiency tip

Hmmmm, if everything is seated properly it should suck down immediately with little or no help at all. There is a section in the user manual trouble shooting that has some specific steps to check that might be useful. From what you are describing I might first look for small chunks of debris around the upper and lower edges of the glass. If you can't get the unit to seal easily with little to no effort defiantly contact customer service at the email address on the website (I'm not able to provide the link because i'm too new here).

If you have any questions reach out any time, always happy to lend a hand. Before you run that flower take a look at a couple of the blog posts on the extractcrafter website there are a couple QWET posts that might help with clean and higher yield results. Stay lifted

Yes, if careful you can reclaim most of it. My wife did not use a bowl so she lost about half. I was careful, and with a bowl I pulled back more than 95%

Thanks for the efficiency tip. I was scratching my head wondering how to reclaim some of the bud I used. I have the vacuum working well now and just trying to fine tune the whole process.

Yup! Thealchemistresource.com when Joe reveals to me how to make the pages public. At this point, only the home page post shows up.

Sadly at age 74, my personal computer skills don't match my skills with a hammer, so need support setting up.
Damn millennials ! Can't swing a hammer or find there asses with both hands but know how to thumb around on a key board. Now they got apps to find people to do there honey do's lol.

When you try to pour off the recovered solvent you need a bowl to capture run off. The container cannot be poured out slowly so a bowl underneath catches the spillage if you do a quick pour. There will be spillage no matter how you do it unless you use a turkey baster to pull it out a little at a time.
