Reverse Osmosis Water

Hi guys,

I'v been reading up on reverse osmosis. heard it's better to use RO water for your hydroponic system. easier to keep your nutrients in balance.

However, i'm been seeing some arguments on whether or not it is actually needed. Some people say alot of city water already goes through a RO system, then they add their chemical afterwards.

In contrary too what is advertised on RO systems, I've heard the RO systems don't remove the chlorine in the water.

any confirmed proof on any of this? is RO water really essential?

thanks guys.

Most of the R/O machines like the Hydro Logic ones (Stealth 100, Stealth 200, Merlin,, Evolution 1000) you need to buy a pre-filter (Small Boy, Tall Boy, Big Boy) with to have chlorine and sediment removed. I think it really depends on your city water and how "perfect" you want to me. Some people have city water that is 70ppm and others have 350ppm water. The advantage is that starting off with relatively 0ppm water from an R/O machine allows you to control exactly what is fed to your plants; especially in a hydro setup. Most cities will provide you with a water test for the area in which you live; you can usually get it from their website or by calling the water utility. If you can see what is in your water and it's ppm you can adjust for it in your nutrient solution. You can also use the runoff from you dehumidifier (if you have one) because the water is very clean and usually has a ppm of less than 40.

That probably didn't help much but just some facts for ya.

Thanks for the info guys.

Ya, i'm just stating out, and just trying to cover all my bases. I'll check my city for a water test and when i get my pH meter ill test my water here and see how it is. hopefully it not too bad, maybe even just get a chlorine and sediment filter. but i guess for now, i'll just let the water sit for a day or two to let the chlorine evaporate out. I'll play it buy ear and go from there, upgrade if i need too.

thanks guys.

You really need to understand how poor city water quality is, stuff like floride and other nasty shit is added.
In my local water (one the the better ones) has over 700 chemicals that are toxic to humans, in small amounts but you
are still smoking and drinking it.

Get a RO system, you'll be shocked at the difference in water taste vs tap water.

RO for plants and yourself.

PS brita isnt RO ;).

yes RO is wonderful. i use it for my plant fish tank and myself there a store that sells it for 35 cents a gallon.

I organically ph balance my res water so it really wouldn't matter if I used RO because I add the micros anyway. I ensure that my plants get the correct micro nutrients by adding traces of domonite lime and screened ash derived from plant material to balance my mix.
