Red Romaine lettuce wilting/dying advice please

I've got my winter plants started and all are doing well in soil so far except a tray of red romaine lettuce in soil. They are wilting and wilting bad so tomorrow I planned on putting them in an exclusive DWC tub and doing what is necessary to keep them going. I don't have experience growing lettuce and could use some insight.

I currently have the lettuce growing under a 400 watt metal halide, again they are in soil. The temps are in the low 80s F. I planned on running them in a DWC tub and usually use the Dyna Gro line.

I'm trying to understand why they are wilting/dying now and if going hydro will even help. (they are in seedling soil trays) Admittedly, I haven't done a great deal of research about light and temperature requirements regarding these plants but what I did find in searches was spotty and very unspecific.

If anyone could give some insight I'd be very grateful.

Thanks a bunch.

lettuce usually wilts from lack of water or heat , did you check the stem down by the soil to see if its healthy and not trying to " dampen off "

Must be the heat. I've been looking more and others, like yourself brought that up. They have plenty of water but not too much so that's not it. It could dampen off too, this is the most light they've had.

Thanks for the input, kind of narrows it down to heat or dampen off.

I just checked a new grow area with other lettuce and the temps were very high only for a short time and all lettuce has wilted. Definitely heat, and Red Romaine seems to be very finicky.
