Recycling Champagne Box Into Mini Drying Box

Well, here is my recycle-reuse project for the evening. I've got this old wooden box that (somebody else's) champagne came in, I'm going to turn it into a little drying box. Not so concerned about smell. Air circulation and maximizing space are the 2 top things I'm puzzling over at the moment. Notice that the lid slides open and closed on "tracks" on the body of the box.

I'm thinking that -- with the box on end -- drilling some parallel holes in the long sides and inserting bamboo skewers across the short dimension might be easiest. Other ideas?

As for ventilation, I can set it on end and slide the lid open 3cm, 4 cm, 5 cm to let air in - adjustable. Thoughts
on adding more air holes?photo (10).JPG

And it will be washed and sterilized. No paint. I want the wood to breathe.
