Re-potted tall neck plants

I am helping a friend out and she had the lights too high above the plants, so they started making long necks. I re potted them in red solo cups with their necks berried. Just wondering if the root mass will grow up above their previous dirt line or if they will only grow down from here on.

They also had barely any root mass, not surprised since they had little light.

I was told they are doing really good now, now that the lights are closer.

U could have repotted a lot deeper, just dont let them get to wet , just moist
I'd like to get them in actual pots. There's barely an inch of dirt in the bottom of the cup.

We're just helping with them for a couple months so we used what we had. This girl is broke and has no plan about this. So I'll be surprised if it works out.

Why did you post in the vertical section? Will you be growing these plants in a vertical system?

Sorry, I assumed vertical was just straight tall plants. Like sea of green. Which some use solo cups. This thread can be closed. I remade it in another group
