Rapid has some quality components, but I'm with you on the short length. Having 3 arrays spaced evenly along about 18" is going to create an intense hotspot- that's one of the benefits of building your own fixture, you can design it for your space. For a 4x4 space I would shoot for at least 600W of actual power use-that should give you a decent PPFD. The trick is to distribute that light evenly across the space-boards and strips make it a bit easier but cob's will do but it takes more driven at lower power levels to even out the light.

trying to find a decent priced all in one kit, i thought i could get good results off a few plants with these lights. not trying to fill up the whole 4x4 room if that matters..

My mate was running this kit on 2.6x2.6 for a few runs. It's bright, but as mentioned here the spacing is somewhat of an issue to my taste. He had nice results, but the plants on the sides of his tent we're not getting the full light potential due to the spacing.
We eventually upgraded his rig with some quantom boards and changed to a 4x4 tent.

See if you can get the same kit components, but with x3 pin heatsinks. Buy some aluminum angle for frame and space the cobs in a way that will suits your needs.

I purchased this kit from Rapid, with the 3590s. After wiring everything up and trying it out, I just didn't like the spacing. Decided to get the rails and pin heatsinks. Much happier personally. Nice job re purposing the old heatsink there, I like the bloom booster. have you seen any difference in your bud from using it? just wondering if a guy could grow a few good plants with these lights

Haven't had a chance to really try it out, actually just put it together few days ago. I'm thinking bout hanging a quantum 120 board on either end and using it in a 2x4. Only got seedlings currently.

That's the Rapidled 2x2 cob kit, I love the rails.
I'm a big fan of Rapidled. They answered my email question @6am Friday (day after thanksgiving) and walked me thru what to do. I had a bad xm-l2, replacement was shipped free of charge and arrived 3 days later. Great customer service. Everything I've got from them has come well packaged, and except for that one bad xm-l2 (which they replaced) everything has worked perfectly. I've purchased 6 cxb3590s from them
2 - 2700k 80cri
3 - 3000k 80cri
1 - 4000k 80cri
They all have worked perfect, Only thing the kit didn't include was sunglasses:cool:8-)8)

That's the one I own, all parts from rapid, heatsinks, cobs, frame. The vero29 one is like $30 cheaper.

Wattage depends on which driver you decide to get. I personally went with the hlg-240-1750b. Full power was like 192 watts according to my kil-a-watt meter. But you can dim the lights down to 10% with the hlg drivers so wattage is adjustable. More then happy to help however I can with my limited knowledge.

On a personal note, I dig the rapid rails cause I'm a spaz with power tools and real diy in general. The rapid kits/rails are like diy-lite.

But bigger driver is more exspensive. 1400 would be more efficient, but you wouldn't be able to get as much light. Personally I think the 1400 would be good. I don't run my 1750 at 100%, more like 60-70% and it seems to work great.

What kind of coverage do you get from it ? 2' x 3' ? Why not get the 2100 and just dim it down a bit ? Or might not be a good idea?
