Random Facts to ponder when stoned

I think @giaou had a thread for random facts but I am too lazy to look for it,

So this thread is for random facts that you run into on a day to day basis.

My share today...

There are 2000 tons on unexploded WWII ordinance (bombs and shit) discovered in an average year in Germany. That's the equivalent of 8000 average sized bombs. Two years ago they found a 550 pounder under a former nightclub in Munich. The fuses on these things (there are many types) are becoming very brittle as was the case with this bomb in Munich. So they decided to 'splode it in situ. I I'll clip a film of it in when am on a real computer. Some of these bombs had "trick" fuses I order to blow up the German bomb squads.

It made me think of "Danger: UXB", an old BBC serial in which the Germans drop bombs on a British love triangle. Good show though.

From memory many of these fuses wire of the picric acid nibbling away at a little piano wire, but you got to break the vial first, and often if the bomb lands in sand water or a soft tile roof, there is not enuf agro to break the vial...hence many unenthusiastic technicians will run, only to blow in situ! ....still its comforting to know theres more accident bombs around than terrorists ...? lol

Is this why the Germans are so environmentally aware - to prevent the acid rain from setting all those bombs off?
