Quick Question about trichome production anyone know the TRUTH...

whats the deal with phenos that have more trichs on the buds.. then another pheno that has trichs on the buds and leaves? i have 1 pheno thats got trichomes so close together that wen u look under a scope.. they look like there actually touching.. another pheno of the same cross.. that has them more spread out on the buds.. but has lots of trichs on the leaves also..

can a plant look like it has more crystal because it has trichs on the leaves.. but in reality the one that has them stacked alot closer together and mainly on the buds might actually have more trichomes?

and does more trichomes mean higher thc content. or can a plant have less trichs but have more potent trichs? say ur breeder says this plant gets up to 25% thc.. and 1 plant makes 1 gram of kief.. the other makes 2 grams of kief. with the same amount of bud.. can the 1 gram of kief actually be more potent because the genetics allow this plant to store more thc in the trichs? how does this work?

basicly does trichome p[roduction make a difference in potency. ive seen some tests from labs that look less crystaly but tes4t way higher???

The trichomes are basically the production warehouses for THC and cbd's. So the crystals/trichs themselves arent exactly what gets you high, its the chemicals inside them.
Some strains might be able to produce more thc and or cbd per trichome. So yes a less frosty strain could very well be more potent. Its all genetics.

I know a while ago i found a really good read on this. It got reqlly in depth on how the thc and cbd's are formed, what causes them to form etc. If i find it ill link it here

i get that.. i just want to know if a pheno could be more potent.. then the next even tho the trich development is abouthalf as much

basicly.. im trying to get people to realize that.. a plant can be SUPER CRYSTALLY.. and could be less potent then another plant that doesnt look as crystally at all..... basicly 1 gram of this kief is tested an gets 80% thc. then another strain 1 gram only gets 50%.. is this because MORE TRICHs. or because MORE MEDICINE IN THE TRICHS.

I've for sure had nug that was super frosty and wasn't anything to write home about when smoked. I've smoked nug that looked almost pathetic and really rocked my world.

As such, phenotype selection should be reserved for after one has smoked properly dried nug. It's really easy to make the wrong descision when ignoring the most important factor, the high.

Yep, I agree, I grew a Malawi Thai that took forever to flower but when it did start to produce buds they were incredible looking, both in the sun and under the scope. I was so excited to harvest the plant after 13 weeks of flowering and it looked so good. But when the harvest dry and cure was through the bud kind of sucked. The taste was like gasoline but not in a good way. And the high was medium at best. I thought I may have messed something up along the way and I grew it out again and it was the same lame shit as the first time. I have since crossed that plant with some Purple Kush and it is better but still not what I was looking for. Trichome production has little to do with the potency of the chemicals in the plant

Allot of plants have tricromes tomatoes cucumbers its a cold weather defense as well as insect control and remember indicas have fat heads and sativas have narrow heads so just depends on enough phenotype you get

I've smoked a couple landrace sativa's that looked like crappy herb, but got me BLASTED, and i'm a regular heavy smoker. the trichs are a good indicator of the plants potency, but not always. Conversely I've smoked MANY super GREAT looking herbs, only to be disappointed with it's potency (most recently with the critical+) The strongest strain I have is not my most "crystally".
Now for making hash? that's a diff story altogether, obviously the more trichs the better, when making hash.

basicly.. what i ment was.. do trichs have a set limit geneticly like a plant that only has 12% thc. is that a genetic thing or is that trich coverage can a plant be super crystally and only be at 10% thc or can a plant not look crystally and be at 20% thc.. is potency genetic or trichome dependent . more trichs more thc.. or can some trichs produce more medicine in less trichomes?

to a large extent the environment controlls levels of precursory terpenes.
genetics determine enzymes and genes converting precursory compounds into cbg etc then cbg into the different cannabinoids

I've never grown mj that wasn't frosty, it's just it's genetics what our plant evolved to do.. even hemp is covered in trichs, just without much thc

Yes dude its whats in the trichs not how many. Lots of other things other than thc in the resin.

Trichromes do a variety of things, they are a defense against the elements of weather. They are a defense against wild life eating the plant, they are also helpful in catching male pollen.

Varieties that are heavy resin producing are the varieties that are generally used for making hashish.. In fact in India, folks will hand run their plants to get as many of those trich's on their hands as they can, and then leave the plant to "Regenerate" it's resin and then come back in a week and do it again..

Trichromes, are cool, but they are not a barometer of THC potency.
