Do all strains show pre-flowers whilst still in veg?

I've only just experienced it myself in my current grow. I used to only veg for short times - max 4 weeks - so didn't see it before.

Also how long do you normally have to veg before they will appear? I am going to grow some regular plants some time soon, and would like to know the sex before I flower them.

    Thanks in advance! :-)

I never had it myself (which doesn't mean a whole lot, just a disclaimer :)), and my max veg is probably 5 weeks, maybe 6. That said:

When they show up it's an indication that the plant is maturing. Probably differs a lot per strain, but I've seen the question before at RIU and it seems 6-8 weeks is common, but have also seen cases of 4 weeks and even less (which I'm guessing were clones) and also longer.

If you are going to veg for a very long time it could be faster to take a clone of each plant and sex that separately.

Thanks dude. That's an interesting suggestion re. taking clones.

I thinking of about an 8 weeks veg with training. Would be willing to go a little longer if necessary. So the 6-8 weeks is well within what I was hoping for. I think the Sugar Punch showed about that time.

It'd most likely be worth your time to clone them early, label them (and their respective 'mother'), sex them, and immediately throw out any males. This way you don't waste resources on males for as long.

And no, some strains will never show pre-flower during veg, some will show it within a month, but it's very common to see within 6 weeks.

Hey Bigby, there's several factors like genetics and veg time, but it generally takes about 45 days from the seed cracking to see signs of sex. I've seen it quicker and I've seen it take longer. There's always 12/12, but Ive never done that to reg seeds. Taking cuts and 12/12 works fine.

    All the best,

Thanks dude. Appreciate the reply. That does sound like a good idea.

I can be a little more specific. The strains being considered are all TGA Subcool - Chernobyl, Jilly Bean, Dairy Queen, Vortex. Anyone know if they will likely show pre-flowers? I know the rates of females to males are good.

nope , strain dependent , sats you crossing fingers where indicas tend to reveal themselves

some its as early as 2 weeks where others you waving a spade at the bastard shouting `TELLL MEEEEE`` and you still wont have a bloody clue until the 3rd week of flower , bit of a twat when you nurse a 7 foot plant outside to find its got bigger balls than i have

Also how long do you normally have to veg before they will appear? I am going to grow some regular plants some time soon, and would like to know the sex before I flower them.

4-5 weeks is a geneal time frame but ya never know , ive sexed a female today at 3 so ....... if really really must know then top it and stick the clone into a glass of water with a hint of food in it and into the flower room , it will soon give the game away and saves a bit of time , good trick if your doing a long veg or going outdoors , you can also cheat and simply drop it into flower early and on the first hint of a sex stick it back to 24/0 and hit it with nitrogen , be warned some may refuse to go back to veg again

All so clones will show you pre flowers in vegg. The above post is spot on. Taking clones in the first few weeks of 12/12 works but I have had some strains never really want to come out of the re vegg mode even after several cuttings down the line.

Nice one guys, most appreciated. That little tip about flowering unrooted clones in a glass of water fascinates me.

I think it was about 4th or 5th week from seed that both my Northern Lights and White Widow showed pre flowers. My clone had them from the day I got her

    So jealous.
