Hey I started curing bout 3 days ago,I been burping the jars about 3 times a day for about 10 mins my question is that the bud has gotten moist again is this ok and continue what I am doing or does it need to dry more? I know there's got to be some moisture for the whole process to take place any info would be great

You really don't want your bud to get moist again. When I burp my jars and they are moist, I just leave the top off till it dry's again the recap. The time limit is just an approximate thing that isn't explained that well. The whole reason of burping is to release the moisture. You will be fine if you just un-cap and wait till it's dry to touch again before re-capping then burp as before. If it gets moist again just repeat. Good luck

Just a quick question the bud has to be dry to cure is that correct ?

If it's moist...remove everything from the jar for 3-4 hours...then return to jar and continue burping...if they are moist again the following day repeat what you did the day before...when you feel they're no longer moist go back to the burp 3-4 times a day for a week or so...you'll notice the aroma changes as the cure continues...g/l

Get yourself a cheap mini hygrometer for like 5 bucks. Put your bud loosely in the jar. Leave about 1 1/2 of space at the top of the jar, and put the hygrometer in the jar where you can see it without opening it. Let it sit for at least 12 hours to get a good reading on the humidity in the jar. If its between 55 and 65 your at curing range. If its 70 then take the buds out and let them dry for another 4 -6 hours depending on how much higher it is from the curing range. If its if its 50 or lower then your out of curing range and you let the bud dry too long and theres really no way to get back to curing range. After you get to curing range put your jars in the dark somewhere cool and burp them once a day for like 10 minutes and stir the buds around gently. Do that for 2 weeks every day and after two weeks do it once every week or two. I cant remember how long after the burping you can leave the jars for long time storage, my bud never lasts that long. I may have missed something but Im sure someone will chime in. Good Luck

+1

I love the hygro method. Now, once I'm in the 55-65 zone I toss a 8gram boveda in the jar and don't open it again till I wanna smoke it.

It's a two-part process - drying is the removal of moisture and curing is distributing the remaining moisture evenly. If we didn't cure we would end up with crispy small nugs and moist big nugs. If your product got noticeably wetter during curing that means you need more drying. If it is still too moist after being in the glass jar you need to dry out some more. My favored way of short-term drying is to put the product on paper towels under a fan. Check every hour or so as fan dried product dries fast. A fast burp is appropriate only when you are just about cured to where you want it.

Good luck, BigSteve.

I opt for a slow dry and jar as opposed to the traditional long-term cure. Never had any complaints.

General rule of them is to jar the buds when the smaller stems are on the verge of snapping. Larger stems will bend without snapping still, indicating there is still moisture inside the bud.

After being in a jar over night, if the buds still feel too moist I would gently place them in a paper bag left in a warm/ventilated room until they felt more uniformly crispy on the outside. The thing about the paper bags is that the buds in the core of the bag are typically going to retain more moisture (if the bag is full), so you might have to move them around once or twice. Then back into jars overnight.

Mold shouldn't be so much a concern if you let them dry out enough before jarring. The considerations are that you should let larger buds dry in the open air longer, or put the really big ones each in their own bag at some point. Don't stuff your buds into the jar either, leave some air spaces.

Get yourself a humidity monitoring device for each curing jar (a special lid or device to insert into the jars). The curing is done when your jars hold at 55% humidity for 24 hours.

Else, it's a guessing game.

I wrote this once in reply to a post grow processing question. I've had the opportunity to use it several times on similar questions. I think it can also be helpful in this thread. Here ya' go:

Did you wet trim or dry trim? Wet trimming is when you trim immediately after cutting the plant down and then dry the buds. Dry trimming is when you pull only the biggest fan leaves and leave the smaller "sugar leaves" on the bud as it dries. Dry trimming is by far the best method for retention of aroma. Here is a post I made sometime back that explains our experience:

We used to wet trim but now we exclusively dry trim everything. We pull the colas and all larger water leaves. Leave all sugar leaf on the buds, Hang upside down on coat hangers stretched across the top in vented cardboard boxes (to keep some humidity in and dry slower). Leave 'em in the boxes for 7-10 days or so, depending on bud structure and density, Once the branches reach a point where they begin to snap and not bend we trim. Much, much easier and leaves a far better nose. Some of the positive differences for us include:

1) easier post-trim clean up. When wet trimming the wet leaves get crunched on the floor and leave green stains that have to be scrubbed up. Hard to get off too. Lots of work getting room ready for next run.

2) easier trim process. Less sticky leaves to deal with on the scissors. Many of the sugar leaves can be broken off and don't even need to be touched with scissors. I was skeptical at first but was convinced after first attempt at dry trimming.

3) sugar leaf trim is already dry when finished. No need to dry post-trimming before extraction of oils. Bag it and send it directly to the CO2 machine.

4) end product is noticeably better. Aroma (the "nose" of the weed) is far better than wet trimming. Leaving the sugar leaves on seems to retain more of the natural plant aroma as it drys. Our Skywalker OG and Super Lemon Haze are off the charts when it comes to their nose. Pop open a jar (or food grade bucket) and the aromatic goodness just slams you in the face.

Oh, and after the above process we store in 5-gallon food grade sealed buckets. We burp every now and then but it's usually gone before we have too long to play with it. Smaller amounts we store in sealed glass jars.
