question about brands of 4" inline fans - cyclone, ipower, hydrofarm active air

has anyone ever used the Cyclone 4 inch inline fan or the ipower 4 inch inline fan? Oh by the way it is for a 2.5'L X 2'W X 3.5'H box and the fan will be attached to a carbon filter (probably one of the small 12" carbon filters) and T'd off and attached to my cool tube to exhaust it as well. I am going to be using the Lumatek ballast that can run a 250watt or 400 watt HPS which I am waiting to arrive. So i am planning on going 400watt hps in a cool tube if all goes well and can keep the temps right. Anyways, what I am getting at is does anyone have any kind of feedback on any of the above fans most importantly which of them is the most quiet? I was already leaning towards the HydroFarm Active Air 4 inch inline fan but saw these fans on eBay in the same price range. I just couldn't find too much info about them other than what was said on the eBay listing.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Now I am gonna go smoke some of the finest trees....O.G. KUSHY BABY! :weed:

that is exactly what I wanted to pay for my fan/filter combo and I still wanted a quality fan. And that is a ventech fan which I have heard other good reviews on and know someone personally who has told me good things as well. thanks for replying man because I completely missed that listing when I was on ebay last night (i was pretty blazed). But thanks again for replying so fast because I need my fan/filter asap and this looks perfect for my setup.

no problem, just lookin out. i am actually going to buy that fan/filter combo myself. You can't really go wrong being that it comes with a warrantee. i also have been looking here http://www.gothamhydroponics.com/

They seem to have decent pricing on some stuff as well.

yeh the warrantee pretty much did it for me because there is always that chance of getting that one that happens to be faulty and stops working for some reason then your screwed if it isn't under warrantee. So I went ahead and ordered that fan/filter combo as well

after you get it up and running, pm me and let me know how it is.
No problem I'll keep you up to date. I already got the box up and running...plants are about 2 weeks into veg (from seed) under 23W (100W replacement) cfl's. for now it is being exhausted with a 120mm pc fan that is 75cfm with passive intake at the bottom which is working pretty well for now since it is keeping my temps at 70 - 75F.

If noise is of any concern, I HIGHLY recommend buying a 6" fan and then using a speed controller to dial the speed down. My 6" running running at 75% cools better than my 4" at 100% and is a lot quieter too.

I was already planning on getting a speed controller so that actually would be a great idea since after the 1st or 2nd crop i want to move it into my closet and vent into the attic and drill holes in the floor for intake. so thats something i will think about over the next day or so because i decided to wait until monday to order when i get paid.

A 4 inch fan and an air cooled 400 will be great! My light is lowered to >1foot from the canopy
hell yeh thats what im goin for trying to get my light as close as possible. im using fox farm ocean forest and fox farm nutes and im thinking of building a small custom screen with a pvc frame that fits right in my box and do a SCROG. so im planning on getting some good yields im hoping for about 1/2 gram per watt. ill try to get some pics up and start a journal or somethin.

agreed, reasonable low prices if shop around for controller r thermostat! just passed this earlier if anybody looking for 6in fan under $100.. link above is dead. www.ebay.com/itm/6-Inline-Duct-Fan-Blower-Hydroponic-Grow-Room-Air-Vent-Exhaust-4-Carbon-Filter/350795070316?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D163%26meid%3D8109545022802012908%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D4%26sd%3D320889296069%26

if i end up having the noise problem i'll try this for sure....thanks man

I Highly suggest against doing any of that! If you have noise problems and slowing the fan doesn't help, which it isn't going to help a alot, I suggest a DIY muffler made from home depot/lowes supplies for around $50-$80 bucks and attach that onto your exhaust, or build a housing for your fan with soundproof insulation. At the very last effort, dynamat around the fan, or another generic brand. DO NOT WRAP CLOTH around your fan...

I don't know why you say slowing the fan won't help a lot.

Because there is a 5th power relation between noise level and fan speed, a small change in fan speed will cause a large change in fan noise. The equation for determining the noise level of a fan at less than full speed is given below:
LS = L1 + 50 log S
S = Fan speed as a fraction of full fan speed
LS = A-weighted noise level at fan speed S
L1 = A-weighted noise level at full speed
Example: A 300 CFM fan has a full speed noise rating of 59 dB(A).
What would the noise rating be at ½ full speed?

L1/2 = 59 + 50 log (½)
L1/2 = 59 -15
L1/2 = 44 dB(A)
