BS. It doesn't apply to stOw either. Nor anyone, until an event that triggers the circumstances they fear actually occurs - which is when your indicators will reflect their economic behavior.

People will cling to normalcy as long as they can - buying and selling and working jobs, and running businesses, feeding and clothing their family because......what else are they supposed to do?
I don't disagree with that, but these types of metrics can see changes in behavior very quickly and even be projected (as well as adjusted when actual numbers are released).

Seems like you are a tad paranoid. I'm simply stating these polls are bullshit, I go by numbers.

Even when disasters, natural or otherwise occur, we've been a nation that comes together, not fall apart. This can always change but I don't suspect it will.

Wait! Hold that thought!

That's as close to an agreement as I think we're likely to achieve.

I appreciate your sentiments about the inherent good of the country, and the peoples that reside here. It's only been the last few years that I let go of the same pov, just so you know, TY, and it hurt somewhat to do so.

Reality sometimes sucks that way. Am I a 'tad paranoid'? :eyesmoke: Depends on who you ask, I guess ;). I look at it like this, and just go w/ the tangent example, ok?

You and I make the same daily drive 5 days a week. One day, one wakes up to a deflated tire. Do you want to be the guy with the can of FIX-A-FLAT, or the other guy? [and please, don't answer Gold Card road service, ok?] The point being.....in the event that the population never faces a national crisis, the cat that prepared for one is none the worse off.

On the other hand.....:eyesmoke:

Nice discussion, amigo.

Agreed.

Hell no! My arthritic ass pulls the shit out of my trunk, pulls out the spare, and a real car jack (got no time for that piece of shit one that comes with the car) to change my own tire. I'm not the most macho of dudes but I'll be damned if don't handle basic shit while I still can :)

Looks a lot like the kryptonite that blue sky had along time ago. Man that shit was up there in the many people to this day say it was the best weed they ever smoked

Just remember my friend, no man is an island, and accomplishments big and small require the hands of many.

I know we don't see eye to eye on things, but I do think our best times are in the future. I share conflicting opinions personally on the direction we've taken in many things, but I can hope and work towards a better tomorrow. I don't even have kids, nor do I ever want them. Yet it reminds me of the saying when camping, always leave the place better than you found it. I hope any contributions I can make can leave the world a better place for future and current generations to continue to build off of.

There will always be conflicts, and problems in society, but I think we can have vigorous debate and recognize we share a common history, values and the desire to be a great country. Perhaps I'm over optimistic, but I feel it's better than the alternative.

^ One of your best posts in this thread, TY. I'd have written something very similar, with the same optimism, just a few years ago.

And while you and I may share 'common history, values, and the desire to be a great country', I don't think that's true any longer to a vast segment of homeland dwellers. The population even among native born Americans is severely divided in many directions, and the animosity towards one another is greater than it's ever been. Large segments of immigrants have no 'common history and values' with Americans, and have no desire to assimilate into our once 'great country'. Many have agendas and plans to do harm - you know this is true.

By all means keep your optimism and good vibes. I do. My assessment to the precarious position we're in requires me to dust off the old cliche' -' he who fails to plan, plans to fail'; that's always my MO. I've prepared for blizzards and hurricanes that were predicted by experts but never happened, and I was none the worse off. On the other hand, many disaster victims and casualties come from the 'did not plan' group when they were given warnings. If a flood of former Obama cabinet members are going on TV daily to sound a general alarm to the population - and they are - I think folks should at least take time to ask why.

I consider several people friends on RIU, you among them. That's pretty cool, doncha think? I honestly don't know many people that can have passionate disagreements and still remain friends, so good for us.

But what I'd like to get across, and hope I have, to my RIU amigos, is that a lot of good folks believe that a lot of good folks are going to go through some very disturbing times, right here in the good 'ol USA. I'm one of those, and not by choice. I wouldn't consider myself much of a friend to you and others, if I didn't urge folks to take their own assessments, then determine their course of action, or inaction. It's never been about winning an argument. :peace:

I completely agree that it's great we can have civil disagreements and be friends. I'd certainly consider you as well as others on this board friends. The beauty of the Internet, the ability to communicate world wide with people you may or may not ever of had the chance previously to met.

I must disagree with you on less shared history and values comment, particularly with regards to immigration. Our country was founded on immigration and while I think we both agree the current immigration system needs to be overhauled (currently every country has the same limits on the number of immigrants from each country, that doesn't make sense), America is a beacon of democracy and a place welcoming to others. Did you know that immigrants create more businesses than "native" Americans?

I feel you on planning for the future. I just think we take different approaches.

I also agree many Americans are struggling. Hell, I'm not where I want to be, but that's why I set goals and work for them. I've had struggles. Had to take a semester or two off due to financial issues and I'm from a middle class family. Not as if my folks could fork over cash for college, particularly since I have siblings and it would be at the expense of their retirement. I watched my father walk away from our home as it was under water. I watched him scramble to pay for a few years to get his full pension (his job was privatized), which isn't much mind you, in less than 20 days, liquidating his accounts were possible and having to rely on family for a small loan. My father is an honest man, a hard working man, one who's never walked away from responsibility, which I knew was hard on him. Mind you this was during the tail end of the recession. So all his savings took major hits already. Just sucks to see someone play by the rules and still get fucked

I didn't say all immigrants - but 'a large segment'. Other than that, it's all good and understood.

Your dad has an almost identical story and discription as my own. Sounds like a fine man.

He honestly is, I can only wish to be as good as he is. Didn't really realize all the sacrifices he made until I was older, and it only makes me appreciate him even more.

He is so straight laced and hard working. Inspires me to be better

Nothing wrong with being a prepper. It only takes a couple acres of land to feed a family of 4 if you know what you're doin and have appropriate seed stock for your area.

Why does everyone with a gun get a Rambo complex? Not necessarily saying you are but it seems only bad guys get shot and not good guys. I'm not anti gun, but I know statistically I am more likely to encounter gun violence if one is owned.

I've seen people in the hospital from gunshot wounds. Luckily they were not overly serious but it certainly isn't like TV and the movies where people just get on. Even a nick from a small caliber weapon can have devastating consequences

I was just thinking about this thread the other day. Last case of ebola in the us declared ebola free, what will fox news use to fill that time gap now lol. We also appear to be making gains on IS, heard we killed their leaders top guy in an airstrike and may have wounded the leader. As well as obama sending 1500 "military advisors". while I think its a step in the right direction, imo we should have sent twice as many with heavy artillery and be able to actively engage them. At this point they can only defend themselves and I am sorry but we have them on their heels in a way so we need to start really swinging on them.
They are getting ready to try amd take fallujah which sounds like it will be as hard of a fight as it was the first time we went there in 03.

Well since Obama came out for net neutrality I'm sure the new agenda is to oppose it. Funny how the talking points for net neutrality are basically parroting industry execs who oppose it for financial reasons. Even though only a year ago how many of us were opposing SOPA and PIPA as they would have undermined net neutrality.

No offense but what reality are you in where you need to shot someone raping "your woman"?

And I'm not against guns, use to have one, and I do see the enjoyment of it from a hobby. Shit, my girlfriend is a better shot than i. Not having a gun doesn't make one "a bitch". It's a false sense of security. Even if I'm staring down the barrel of a gun and I have one, it's too late.

You also realize most rapes are done by friends and acquaintances?
