Doing a side by side grow with 3000k 80 CRI vs 3000k 90 CRI Quantum Boards
Each in a 3'x3' tent and in Octopots
Each has a CunFusion clone
One light is 4 QB 304's 80 CRI and the other light is 2 QB 480's 90 CRI
Both dimmed to 180 watts at the wall for veg
Both will be set at 270 watts at the wall for flower, 30 watts per sq/ft
Lights set about 36" above the plants and receiving about 260 umoles for veg

Granted I'm still a noob- but even at same watts wouldn't the 4 board coverage on its own provide an edge?

I feel like to be really "scientific" you would need to run an identical setup in both tents. If one side proves to have an overwhelming advantage, I guess that will give an idea of the effect though.

Love these comparisons.. But as stated earlier, i think the 480 will have the advantage, no?? Not knocking the match or the lights at all buddy, just an observation.. It will be same wattage at the wall, but the 480 will have a higher lumen/watt ratio as there are more diodes run softly..Im sorry if im off, i haven't got my feet wet in qb's yet.. Im still in and patiently waiting..
Cheers

He should be fine as the variable he is testing for is the CRI. So long as the light output is roughly the same power i.e. PPFD, then it is still a scientific comparison. If it was going into a report, there would be a note explaining the source.

I have a test starting up that compares the combined influences of the different CRIs to see if there is a difference which would indicate that the CRI has an impact on something. Light being the way it is I don't believe that it is an either or decision but rather a combination for best results. My intentions are to try and determine if there is an optimal amount of either CRI together to bring the best out in plants. Comparisons are 6:0 90CRI, 5:1 80/90CRI and 4:2 80/90CRI combinations.

So one is going to have 4*304=1216 diodes. The other is 2*480=960 diodes.

With at least a 25% more diodes the qb304 boards will have an advantage on the lumens to wattage ratio. If that is true then the test results will be skewed a bit.

Peace

Not my thread, but he will keep the wall-watts even on both sides. Admittedly, the leds on the 960 side will be run a bit harder...but not much. See first post.

Guys follow @NapalmD journal for 4x288 80 cri vs 90 cri test
I am sure Captain is well aware of his test setup and limitations. Just trying something different.
guy is pretty scientific in approach and an experienced grower. Looking forward to this grow. Good luck Captain

I'll be posting the results when done but it won't be for a while. The strain being used is a 10-12 week sativa where the donor plant is still running strong going on 14 weeks now. It was picked because we are looking for shortened flowering times so hopefully by using a longer run strain we will see if there is a benefit. The test plants are well ready to get going once I have the space available.

Just more info to put back into the community.
