Qualification - Mood/anxiety disorder

I read somewhere that you could qualify for a card if you suffer from depression and take medicine because herb can help with side effects. In my case however, I have recently stopped taking medicine because i didn't feel the benefits outweighed the side effects.

I still suffer from depression, anxiety, insomnia, low appetite, etc. (Which is why i took those wretched pharms to begin with) I was wondering if I am entitled to treat my condition with medical cannabis as i've already tried pharmasuiticals for an extended period and don't like it.

Does anyone know the medical marijuana law situation regarding mood/anxiety disorders (bipolar etc) ?

you can not get it for depression, anxiety, or insomnia in michigan alone but here is how you gotta look at it to get a doctor to write you a script

You have chronic aches and pains , its not really that bad but ofcourse you do right? You use marijuana to help you sleep and help with your appetite...just speak the truth brotha...only thing they need to write down you suffer from pain or nausea so keep that in mind when you talk to the doctor . Also you can get medical marijuana if you experience nausea as a side effect of your other medications.... Only place that has medical marijuana for mental illness alone is california.

If and when they give it for mental illness here lol its so on...I am a therapist and beleive me I will diagnose anyone who wants medical marijuana with major depresion haha just about any tom, dick, or harry makes the joke of a criteria for Major Depression NOS or Mood Disorder NOS ...It might as well be legal at that point..I am not denying that it helps depression, insomnia, or anxiety...It helps all three very well infact, Marijuana is the safest most theraputic plant on the face of this planet. I am just saying that if they allow it for mental illness then any 20 something little girl with a bachelors is going to be essentially prescribing marijuana in a sense because they will be creating the medical records for the marijuana doctor to use.

When you have any mental health service even a 15 minute session we are required to put a diagnoses for billing purposes, which is why we have the NOS diagnoses (not otherwise specified) or (not enough evidence)

I've tried to get Sativex perscribed to me here in the UK without luck for bipolar disorder.

However, there seems to be some hope for the future:

Bipolar affective disorder is often poorly controlled by prescribed drugs. Cannabis use is common in patients with this disorder and anecdotal reports suggest that some patients take it to alleviate symptoms of both mania and depression. We undertook a literature review of cannabis use by patients with bipolar disorder and of the neuropharmacological properties of cannabinoids suggesting possible therapeutic effects in this condition. No systematic studies of cannabinoids in bipolar disorder were found to exist, although some patients claim that cannabis relieves symptoms of mania and/or depression. The cannabinoids Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) may exert sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, antidepressant, antipsychotic and anticonvulsant effects. Pure synthetic cannabinoids, such as dronabinol and nabilone and specific plant extracts containing THC, CBD, or a mixture of the two in known concentrations, are available and can be delivered sublingually. Controlled trials of these cannabinoids as adjunctive medication in bipolar disorder are now indicated.

Thanks, Deprave! Yeah man it's such a valuable and essentially harmless medicine if you aren't abusing it. I had my days...sure love getting down, but when you realize that you are abusing because you are suffering, then you really need to look at the root of the problem and solve it. For me I need to watch my nutrition like a hawk and exercise daily in order to stand a chance against bipolar. As I said I no longer take any wretched pharmaceuticals. Many people with bipolar are co morbidly suffering from a thyroid/nutritional/hormone condition which exacerbates their mood disorder symptoms, chronic undiagnosed pain, muscle weakness, etc.

If you are suffering, tell somebody. If you have bipolar symptoms, consider reevaluating your diet as food is the best medicine.

As I mentioned I am a therapist, It is well known people use marijuana to treat bipolar and it can help but like you said its nessecary to take care of yourself in many other ways including discussing this with your therapist. I would say 90% of my patients with Bipolar over the years have used marijuana to treat it, however, just like you mentioned there is a fine line between substance abuse and medicinal use. If your therapist will not work with you and accept that you use marijuana as a treatment and you explain that you don't abuse it then find a new therapist.

There is a lot of us that want to see our BIPOLAR patients be able to use it responsiblly without fear of arrest. In fact we have papers that explain the medical marijuana program with phone numbers to call in our main office of over 75 therapist that we keep to give to people that could benifit from the medical marijuana program. Of course it is hidden away in a drawer cause we get audited constantly lol

We are required by the powers that be to at the least write that we refered you to substance abuse if you admit to marijuana use .
