Nah, my oven holds vacuum so I only run it at first. Shut the valve and let it do its thing.
@qwizoking and I have very different opinions on this. Listen to whomever, but know that the large oil producers are not purging for only 30 minutes.
Look up Bret maverick on YouTube or Instagram. One of the most knowledgeable public information you can find on making oil.

Full vac pump running for an hour and a half at 100-120 degrees Fahrenheit works for me. Only blasting oz at a time. Good luck hope this helps.

So I guess I need to start hooking up my micron guage lol. I pull a vacume while the container is in a hot water bath, water is probably 100 f. I would think Im down to 500 microns easily and leave it for 30 minutes, pull it out and give it a good stir then back in for 30 minutes and one more stir and vacume. This gives me a rock hard shatter that is a mid amber color. When I melt it there is no sparking or bubling it just drops and vaporises. So do I still have risidual butane in there? Do you really need a three-four day purge?

^^^^ I've never heard of doing that either but really have not done much research in the 20 years of doing BHO. Not saying I'm an expert but do make some pretty good goo lol. Perhaps I'll take it to the next level and start doing some readings. Also if your using a digital micron gauge you should be able to tell by the stability of the reading over time. If the gauge rises at a certain temp I would think that would indicate off gassing. Guess Id better do some reading, im pulling like 500 microns. You guys are pulling a vacuum of 29 hg, I'm so confused lol, is atmosphere not 29.9 at sea level. Doesn't seem like a vacuum at all? Without any heat at all and in a hard toffee state, when I pull a deep vacuum, it will still turn into a muffin so is heat really necessary? Sorry for all the questions and the thread high jack. This all just started to tweak my interest and want to take this to the next level. Gonna start reading up on supercritical CO2 as well

I'm fairly new at this bout a year under my belt if you get no sparks when u do the melt test I guess ur fine. I've never purged for that short a period but I'll give it a try. Question do you believe your rock hard shatter comes from the 30min purge time or from stirring it like you describe?

I dont know lol. Before I usedthe vacuum pump I still got shatter but it took a long time purging in ambient air with hot water bath, and yes I have always stirred it periodically. But The reason I stir it now is I am trying to get wax lol just never seem to get there, all I ever get is shatter. At 500 microns dont think stirring is needed though for solvent removal due to the expansion that takes place. Again I know shit about the methodology. I just wing it lol. Like I said I'll start taking some readings. And Im sure the micron gauge will tell a lot as to whats off gassing or not

Shatter is my goal I can achieve moon rock looking wax and stable amber taffy but no jolly rancher snapping shatter. If your trying to get it to wax vac and devac the material with no heat about 5 times then leave the pump running for over 2hrs and it will wax on you just don't let it get to warm or it will go runny or goopy as I call it.

Ya I'll give it a try. I need to find out when each compound actually evaporates at a certain temp and vacuum. Like when, if ever does THC, cause that would be bad lol. I can pull a pretty deep vac with my equipment and it takes like 5 minutes to pull it down to 100 microns. So again you guys are only pulling like 29 hg, is that true??

My guage is not calibrated right so can't tell you how many hg I'm pulling but I run all my work at full vac as for boiling off thc in vac I have read here that that's a possibility. Supposedly 30 hg or above and thc boils off but I couldn't tell you for sure

Well 29.9 is atmosphere so I hope not, am I missing something here? I keep seeing that so maybe i'm really confused lol. I have a digital guage that has 3 scales but only ever use microns. It starts at 750000 microns/29.9 hg. Aahaaa got it lol. All my instruments read in absolute not guage! So after reading (not much lol) thc does boil off...who woulda thunk, lol. And yup I've probably boiled a bit off lol. Gonna start reading more and find out when all the compounds boil at certain vacuums. This is getting pretty cool! FYI delta 9 thc boils off at 104f at 750 microns. I've been making BHO for a lot if years and just now am starting to find out all the wrong things I've been doing lol. Cant wait to start doing it right and see the difference. Gonna do a batch on monday and i'll stick a thermistor in the chamber to monitor temps. Thanks all! Its threads like these that help stupid old guys (me) take it to the next level!!!

Near as I can tell its really not the time as much as proper vacuum and proper temp. Just from reading this Thread and a bit of research I'm pretty sure I've boiled off a bit of THC LOL.

There are some really good tables that show the boiling points of all the different compounds related to extraction, its pretty interesting. I was really curious about the mercapton that is added for odour.
