Proper Staking Techniques

I will need to stake shortly and am concerned about piercing the roots as I wish to stake closely parallel to my plants, I've tied back before and supported with wire but I've never staked in early/mid season, as my Skunks are already enormous for early June and the wind whips up on occasion I am worried about the eventual yield weight and would like to reinforce, I plan on buying some simple stakes for tomatoes, how should I proceed and can I stake directly adjacent to a stalk without damaging the root structure? I think if I insert precisely I'll be all right but I greatly appreciate feedback!....

dont worry about damaging the roots. It does minimal damage to the plant. The feeder roots are the ones you dont want to damage and they are all around the edges of the pot. Marijuana plants are very hardy. I cut half of a rootball one time and the plant drooped a little for a day and was fine adter that.
