Hey guys, this is my first post on here so I have a quick question for one of my buddies, he has been continuing his first grow. He has been having problems about 4 weeks into flower and just starting week 5. The plants are in supersoil so there hasn't been any added nutrients other than some molasses mixed with water. The plants are watered daily because of the use of air pots which need more water. He is putting in 2 table spoons of molasses per gallon so it is double what is average but I don't think that would be the issue. The water is also friendly at about 6.7ph. I have attached some photos I took incase anyone could shed some light on the reason why the leaves are falling off. I know they naturally fall off during flower, it just seems really quick, he won't have any leaves left in the second half of flower! Lol
    Thanks guys. Peace

That yellowing in the centre of the plant is sulphur.

Perhaps a lack of N as well as itsyellowing from the bottom up too..

Thanks for the reply, I will tell him to hold back on the molasses, the reason he was using more than recommend was to increase bud size/yeild, but maybe it was too much. Should he continue with half the dosage of molasses as he was doing double the recommended amount previously? Should he just use straight water until the leaves start to grow back? What is a teaspoon of Epsom? Out of the 5 plants the middle one is an auto the others are photo period, Thanks

Hey jypsy dog, he has a magnesium toxicity rather than a deficiency, is that correct?

When my plants started something like this I flushed and started over with nutes but I'm not growing in a super soil just one I threw together. My autos are doing sorta the same thing but they're close to finishing and been told this happens as they focus on finishing b4 life cycle ends but I'm a newbie so I'm learning as I go

Hey dabber68, thanks for the info, I really appreciate it! Maybe his plants are looking like that because they are focusing all the nutrients to the buds? He could just be worried for nothing! Ha.

If anyone else has anything to add it would be much appreciated!

Why would I give you a link to a deficiency if it was from toxicity? Much less suggest adding a teaspoon of Epsom.

Ok, what should he do regarding the molasses, cut the dosage in half?

does he know what molasses does?

all it does is feed the microorganisms in the soil (mostly)

Yes I know that it helps the plants I don't know if my buddy should put less or not, if that's not the issue he should continue what he is dojng but add extra magnesium with epsom right?

i'd follow jypsy dog advice. if he doesn't get the issue fixed ASAP, it won't make it another 3 or 4 weeks.

Ok I will go with what jypsy dog says, but to confirm he should continue molasses at same quantity but add magnesium with epsom? Then that should fix the problem?

Did you miss a watering? That also tends to create these random yellow leaves al over the plant.
Nitrogen deficiency leaves them paler and it is more uniform over the plant.
I'd stick with epsom salts and try and figure out what is going on with the soil.

The type of fertilizer you use will affect how the soil pH reacts over time.

Don't be shy to feed molasses, some of it actually feeds the plant most is for the bacteria, yeasts and fungi

if too much though, won't the extra K affect the K;Ca:Mg ratio of 4:2:1?

Don't go batshit with it, just a nip. You are trying to feed microbes, not your cousin Vinnie.

2 TBSP per gallon seems like a lot.
