I have all the ingredients to maker the 1/4 batch of Subs Supersoil. My question is can I use the pro mix instead of Roots? My bags of soil are 2.8 cf and I think the Roots is based on 1.5 cf. Thanks:joint:

Heres a link that might help ya out, it breaks down his recipe into smaller portions. As for the promix, yes you can use promix but it is a soiless medium so it has no nutrients, unlike roots organic which is ammended. So you might wanna look into feed with tea's also, it wont be a "water only" recipe.

https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/553550-supersoil-smaller-scale-grow.html

Heres the recipe for using 3 cubic feet(1/4 batch)
2 large bags of a high-quality organic potting soil with coco fiber andmycorrhizae (i.e., your base soil)
6.25 to 12.5 lbs of organic worm castings
1.25lbs or 20 ounces steamed bone meal
1.25lbs or 20 ounces bloom bat guano
1.25lbs or 20 ounces blood meal
3/4 lbs rock phosphate
3/16 cup or 3 tablespoons Epsom Salts
1/8 cup or 2 tablespoons sweet lime (dolomite)
1/8 cup or 2 tablespoons azomite (trace elements)
1.5 teaspoons powdered humic acid

Is pro mix organic?
Read many debates that it isn't. But those debates usually go into what is "organic" lol.

Im pretty sure promix is "organic" (no chemicals) its just an inert medium spiced with mycorrhiza.
Iv done just what your talking about though and it worked great! But as SML stated its not exactly water only, but it works fantastic with teas which is what I did. I used the classic guano kelp tea recipe :-) Grew some fantastic bud.

ProMix is certainly organic and when you add the SS ingredients (amendments) it will certainly be a water only mix.

I guess some aren't too well versed in constructing their own soils. Roots has small amounts of what is basically the SS amendments, nothing magical there, just more expensive.

You can make a basic peat/perlite/EWC mix and end up at the same place as Roots using the same amendments you would use for SS in lighter amounts. This is a base.

SS is nothing more than a super hot base mix like LC's or Vic's.

YMMV

I use promix and it is organic..but you need to ammend or feed extra heavy w nutes, but salt buildup can become a factor..botanicare is easiest I think to work with promix..but s.s. is the way to go. I just have no space to store bins to "cook" the soil...

If you wanted to use water only of course it can be a water only mix. Using AACT teas with any soil mix I have ever made benifits my soil, doesnt matter if its amended soil or inert; AACT teas increase my yield, flavor, resin content, Basically overall plant health. You keep doing you; but what's that have to do with my soil preparation skills Wet?

I wasn't attacking your soil making at all. Sorry if it sounded that way. +1 on the ACCTs also. Your mix looks just fine.

I was mainly ranting on how easy it is and cheap to make your own peat based mix that will blow the socks of Roots, FFOF, or anything else that comes in a bag. ProMix is pretty cheap, but you can still do it cheaper. I use the Peat from the same company (Premier).

With bagged soils you are paying for whatever amendments and the mixing. That's all well and good if that's as far as it goes.

You make SS and what?

Add more of the same or similar amendments and mix it up.

Actually, I just recycle my soil and feed with AACT.
So do I. I do re amend the used mix. I don't really consider the ACCT as a food source though, I use it more for a microbe boost.

The rest of that "You make SS and what?" is, you add amendments and mix them in. Doing exactly what you paid 3-4x as much to have done in the Roots or whatever.

If someone is going to be adding and mixing, why not do it from the git?

Good to see you're still kicking around here Wet...positive vibes from my way.

Was starting to get nervous about all the dumbass information I have been seeing on RIU lately since I came back...good to see your still laying down the no bullshit gospel.
