Pressurized Closed column extraction

PS: We did a lot of open blasting before I started building closed loop equipment, but we took the instructions on how to do so off our SPR site because of the number of brothers blowing stuff up, around innocent bystanders.

I also did experiments with closed tube extraction, to allow soaking and vibration, but moved on because of the quality of the extract produced. The added weight is primarily C-30 constituents, which most of us'ns consider undesirable in a concentrate.

Here is a picture of how I did it with a horizontal tube and unequal vertical legs to allow injection and venting at the same time. The vibrator was donated for the application and was scored at a garage sale used for $0.50.
Saw this Picture few years ago still funny AF And totally agree on everything looking like a nail if you only uses a hammer.

@Fadedawg

I agree, a lot of those guys on church are really happy with their own ways and talk bad about everything else. I personally believe closed loop is fine but I admit, I've only read a few hundred pages of forum fodder to make my opinion and havnt tried it before.

I'd love to be able to make quality for my patients w what I have but it doesn't appear that I'll be able to achieve that with this set up.

Can I ask you, a person who I respect and value their opinions, why use BHO over bubble methods. I'm experimenting currently with making bubble and then heating to make a wax. I pressed some bubble last night w a straight iron and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Cleaner looking than the wax I usually make.
Let me see a pic of this pressed bubble bro

@Crippykeeper I had less than a gram and left what I pressed at work. This is bubble that has been in my tool box for probably over 2 years so I'm not claiming super high quality or anything but I can try to take a pic of before and after. Have no idea what it will look like being such a small amount but I'll try!

Yea there is some contaminant but this is stuff I don't even remember making so who knows my process years ago lol but if I can get same yields, I'm honestly scraping BHO. For me doing it the way we do, the dangers and all that isn't worth it if I can get same or better quality oUT of this. I smoked some last night and got fucked up lol so I know it is still doing what it should be doing to me!

I have better genetics now too so I can't wait to see what I'll make.

I'm still going to be doing more low temp work w bho and trying to see if that could help my issues.

What temps are u keeping @Fadedawg ? I think that could be some of my issue.

Nothing wrong with bubble methods. It should be noted however, that the yield is greater with solvent extraction, because you pick up too much plant material if you push for all of the trichomes using dry sieve or bubble techniques.

Making Rosin out of bubble or dry sieve, can make a nice extraction, but by the time you process the kif and then extract, it is more work for about half the yield.

Sam of course is noted for his premium quality heads only, "full melt" hash, which is indeed fine stuff, and I seldom turn anything fine down, yet on the other hand I've noted that after a decade of sampling concentrates, that I and my SPR partners, can all taste the scorched cellulose discs in even full melt.

@Fadedawg interesting. Interesting indeed. So you are partners w SPR? I saw they had classes in 2013 on their website, do you know if they still do those? Just curious, I'm in michigan so I wouldn't be able to go but I looked then up on instagram and they have one post. Would be awesome to see them doing tutorials on there!!

I'm going to make some bubble today and see what yields I get. I've heard they are comparable to bho so worth a shot and see what I get. I wouldn't push for more cuz I'll just collect what I collect and see what I get. I'll post my results after I get it dry!

Eloquentsolution, Pharmer Joe, and Moi, are the three Skunk Pharm Research founding partners. We did do classes in 2013, and even did private classes for a group from Michigan, but haven't since then due to losing use of our teaching facility and changing laws.

Both Eloquentsolution and Pharmer Joe give private classes and if you will email me at [email protected], I'll forward it to both of them for their own responses.

Update* still waiting on it to dry but doesn't look like 20% I think I'd be lucky to get 10% I'm going to run a more resinous strain and see what I get next. I'll update my yields when I get it dry!

@Fadedawg well isn't that awesome! I'm not really interested in private classes as I'm sure these are pricey. I was hoping to get in on a public class or something. I appreciate that though, if I ever do decided different I'll def hit you up. Your guys site is awesome, I'd have to say I love the scientific approach. I'm always eager to learn so just being able to ask you questions, is awesome on itself!

What temps would one want to stay below when making shatter? I think I was going to high and getting a more sticky consistency. I just want to make that cheese looking slab that's goldenish. Doesn't have to be a huge one or anything, just want to produce quality, especially if this is something I can do better and may be able to offer my patients.

I think the heat is what's keeping my extract dark.

Thanks!

@Crippykeeper right that's what I thought and everything stays colder but for whatever reason this kid Brett this week said he used it or something like that or maybe in the past and I don't know the exact words but he was explaining something and then said something like don't get me started they are pointless. Now he didn't elaborate this I remember but worth looking into if the pioneer/inventor of using BHO says so right? I'll keep I posted if I find it and in the mean time, got any pics of your work we can check out? I'm going to take another stab at blasting probably in a week so I'll also post my results
Alright here's my method with pics

Starting material image.jpegI grind bud like I was gonna roll it up image.jpegnext I prepare tube by putting a wad of 30micron mesh image.jpegI tap mesh down firmly then add ground budimage.jpegimage.jpeg image.jpeg Then I place another little wad of mesh on top of bud to prevent blow back. Here is what butane oil mixture looks like in panimage.jpegthen I let butane evaporate image.jpeg next scrape onto parchment paper and place in vac chamber and purge at 107f

Here's finished product color is lighter yellow but its night time and phone camera ain't doing justice. image.jpegThat's pretty much it @smink13
Forgot to mention didn't let material soak and bud was at room temp butane was in freezer for few day. Good luck man.

@looks great man! Kudos! Did you freeze it after you vaced it to flip it or was yours workable? Mine takes forever to become workable to get it off the ptfe paper I feel, just to flip it.

How many cans of tane did you get in therr, did you end up pulling a vac first?

No vac and I use plain white parchment paper and no freezing patty. It attracts moisture when you pull it out the freezer. And I don't attempt to flip till I can slide my finger over the patty without it getting stuck. Oh and I just run two cans off butane through the tube no vacuum open blast.

What's the color of your butane oil mixture?

@Crippykeeper my oil coming out of the nozzle and into the pan is what you showed. I'm screwing something up in between that and the final product. I'm thinking temp.

What did you use for a heat source? I have a digital pad from best value vacs that is supposed the be accurate plus or minus only like 2 degrees I think so maybe I'm just simply setting it too high for the strains I have...
