Preflowering - Females vs Males - Who really shows first?

Age old question but I need confirmation from some experienced growers as I have just confirmed 3 females at 100% while I'm still in doubt on the the other 3 (6 total) Usually the males are fairly easy to spot a week or two before the fems but I just can't seem to identify these last 3, I spent at least 5 minutes looking at every branch and could not make a conclusion, there is basically no physical difference among the 6, they all look the same and the internodes are starting to stagger off, they're Early Skunks and now 7ft tall, is it possible that some male may show after their female counterparts instead of vice versa? They're all the same age (give or take a day) and all have the same conditions... They're all the same height too.

Yeah, rather odd... It's really bothering me, I'll be returning to my patch next week (I was just there) to determine what the hell is going on, I'm used to seeing balls before hairs, not the other way around, pretty sure at least one of those 3 is a male but I can't be sure just yet... My Guerillas Gusto from Sensi are starting to show signs of flowering also, I pulled a male from that patch in late May! And he was so obvious, these Skunks are a little more tricky it seems....

Males usually show sex earlier, but it may not be very distinguishable until when or after the females show. I wait to kill or move males until a week or so after the females show just so I don't make any mistakes.

I had all of my preflowers show around the same week. The females were identified first, because of the stigma that eventually shows. This is the positive identifier of a female plant.

In my experience the female preflower is easier to identify than a male one, but since they are both visible im not sure which one will technically show "first"

that's interesting. never heard of a female showing sex before the male.
I second that, this is a new phenonemon for me, it's pissing me off because I need to change my watering schedule and I need to know who's who, no need lugging all that water for some pubescent late bloomers, grrrrr.... Only time will tell, this is my first year with Skunks, Early Skunks mind you, I tought that they'd show earlier, Oh well, as long as I'm back next week I should be able to intervene in time if I do verify any ball sacks...

Well said, that is usually the case females tend to be easier (and more satisfying to identify) damn males are tricky, maturation must vary from strain to strain... If my fatest plant is a male I shall be pissed, but oh well 3/6 isn't that bad...

I've always noticed that the females are easier to confirm before the males. The males my show pre flowers first but it is tough at times to tell until you see the balls. My last plants that I was waiting on turned out to be males. I think this is because females are very easy to identify once the 2 white hairs come out.

I pulled my males about a week and a half ago. I just identified my females this morning. However, the fems were planted about 2 weeks after the males. So, in theory, my fems would have shown the same time as my males if they were planted at the same time.
So the next question is...is this the beginning of flowering? Should I start nuting flowering nutes?

My last male just showed today. I dont think its time to start flowering nutes yet if only the pre-flowers are showing. Only a couple of my females are starting to show a lot of white hairs on the tips so I am starting them on flowering nutes now. Mabey someone with more expierence can confirm this for us.

Yep, I’m in Northern Italy at 45°, at the same level as Michigan and lower Canada but no frost until mid/late November thanks to the Mediterranean, I had 10 feminized Early Skunks and screwed them up during germination as I used an acidic soil of about 5.5, I ended up only getting one, so my best spot has been compromised by the presence of males, oh well, looks 50/50, 3 out of 6, sucks to find out you’ve been pampering males, but I’ve got another 3 females in another patch so a total of six fatties will be nice, I really don’t know how I’m gonna manage all that bud come October, if everything pans out… Anyway my next trip will be Sunday and I think I’ll be able to make an accurate conclusion and chop the males. Let’s hope they start flowering by early August, they’re 7ft right now…
