PPM Question -- ppm level good, but plant showing def

Hey Folks!

I'm running a bubble-pot set up with AN micro, grow and bloom nutes. Plant is almost 4 weeks old. Very healthy, and I just topped her a couple of days ago as per Uncle Ben.

On this grow I got myself a ppm meter, and I'm now on that learning curve. I'm trying to keep ppms in the prescribed 200-400 range (.5 conversion). Ph is 5.6-5.8.

I initially just prepared 1/4 strength nutes, but that combined with my water (130ppm) was pushing the ppm level to 540, which seems high for a young plant in hydro. I started to get a little yellowing along some leave edges, so I replaced some of the nuted water with plain yesterday, and now my levels are 400, including the 130 naturally in the water.

The yellowing has halted, but today I'm noticing that some of the leaves are starting to look nitrogen deficient. I can add some more micro to the bucket, which will feed more N, but that will throw off the ppm level. I should probably add some cal/mag, too, as that was an issue last grow.

So...should I pull out more of the generally nuted water and add some that's just the micro and cal/mag, with a ppm of 400 so it matches? Is that how one does it when one focuses on ppms but has to adjust to the plant?

Thanks for your help!

A pic would help. Every seems to be okay ppm and ph. If your using GH, there might be to much N. ( this is when we need the pic ) i had this happen when i was using micro, grow and bloom. Once i switch the lucas formula problem was solve.

Hope this helps

I will post a photo later today, thanks. I'm using AN, not GH. I'm not married to these nutes, so if there's something more beneficial for hydro, I'm game to try it.

up the PPM a little bit to the 600 range. That is the beauty of running a low PPM, if you start to see deficiencies you know its not lock out so you can just up the strength a little.

Are you monitoring your ppm on daily or semi-daily basis? If it goes up then back nutes down and if it goes down add more nutrients... Simple. Why guess?

Did you give him +rep? It won't be the last time you see superstoner or benefit from his experience.
Yes I did! LOL But thanks for the reminder in case I hadn't. I usually don't note it in the public thread reply when I do but I've seen other people note it and I think I will from now on to promote that courtesy in general in the community. :)
