Powdery Mold, damn...

I posted this in plant Probs, but am too impatient to wait. Anyone that can assist would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a weird one: My 2 grow rooms(one veg/one flower) were very infested with PM. I took Water/Baking Soda and Milk and mixed in a sprayer( about a gallon ), and sprayed the living piss out of everything!! I have some in Flower wk-6 that had it on the leaves and sugar leaves, but not stems, so I soaked all of 'em. I can't find any more spots, but now everything is white from the heavy bicarb(baking soda).

Should I spray the white dust left from yesterday's treatment off with water?

The weird part is: both of my rooms stay at about 11% humidity and I've used clones from one source from the get-go. Nothing that would make me even begin to think about any type of mold or mildew! So, where in the world did this come from. I live in Maine and it's still well-below freezing at night and there's still a couple feet of snow on the ground, in my yard. Any ideas?

Is there anything else I can do to help save my buds(which look and smell just fine, at this time), besides spraying/wiping them down until harvest?

Your indoor climate is apparently perfect for PM or was at one time. PM is airbourn so its all over your walls etc. Bleach cleaning of everything (not the plants) should do the trick if you are thorough

In the short term, spraying underneath the girls with serenade and daily picking off necrotic leaves etc. might help. Good luck.

I put my humidity & temp meters on the floors of my rooms this morning and 8 hr later this afternoon, during the light cycle they both read 12% and 75-78 degrees.

I'll check them a few hours into their dark cycle.

I'm in western maine And I had this low humidity p.m. I kept it supressed with neem oil In veg for a while. Then i Thought about how it grows and eliminayed the veg dark cycle and added cfl bulbs to places that got shade.it did a decent job of keeping it at bay.

Luckily it was a decent time of year that I could just put them outside to flower. To get rid of the pm permanently I ended up taking out the carpets where my tents were, as well as the closet carpet of the room. I did away with the wallpaper, then bleached everything with A strong comcentration. Then put a layer of 6mil plastic over everything.

I'm now using a differwnt room but I still did that to the new room minus rippin. Off the wallpaper, just bleached over it.

Almost all of my expirience indoor is veg only though I'm only on my third indoor flower run now, and I havent run into this problem during flower.

I'm kind of lucky, in the fact that my room has a painted cement floor and the walls are covered with cellulose reflective sheets, that can be cleaned easily(or replaced inexpensively), so I hope this is manageable. I have my clones/cuttings on a table with 8 x T5's on 24 hr in my veg room. There is no "real" dark time there.

Thanks for more responses!

I moved the meters onto the cement floor, next to the plants, earlier.
Just checked them 01:45
Humidy-16%
Temp-68
I'll check again just before flower lights go on in am.

Maybe try raising your temps a bit? I know pm like shade and cool temps, and at the time when I switched my lights on
24/0 it did raise the temps some in my room.

All cleaned out with bleach/water solution- walls, floor, everything(except plants).

Have more airflow(added a fan).

Everyone look like they've faired pretty well! Even buds!

I'll be watching closely....

I, also, think I'll be picking up some SaferGro in the near future!

Thanks for the replies!

Nice! Make sure that if you find any more traces of the mildew turn all your fans off, air flow makes it very easy for mildew to spread and establish itself. I would stay away from fungicides, especially in flower.
For isolated cases that you will likely find, I would just soak a q-tip in h2o2 (hydrogen peroxide if your not familliar) and just wipethe mildew spots.
Some people use whole milk thats just past the expiration ddate,
Ive mixed them together but it works just as well wirhout the milk.

That Safer Gro, Mildew Cure will only keep it at bay. Like he says right in the video, the powdery mildew will return. There is no real cure for powdery mildew that is safe for human consumption. The best you can do is keep it at bay so you can harvest.

The only way to truely get rid of it is to finish the ones in flower, then start fresh. Unfortunately this involves some down time. I've had to do this exact thing myself. I had to kill off everything in veg. Then you can go through and bleach out all your rooms. I started fresh using seed. By using seedlings you know your not reintroducing the mold back into your rooms.

As cold as it has been outside, I know you haven't been tending an outdoor garden. So ask yourself how could the powdery mildew have been introduced? Do you frequent other indoor grows? You could have picked up some spores at your local grow shop, but highly unlikely. The only thing left is the clones themselves. Powdery mildew can stay in mycelia state for some time before it sporulates, forming the whitish patches.

Hope this helps, best of luck to you.

This was a very good learning experience. I dumped what was in late flower, bleached walls, floors, vents.. defoliated any leaves that were affected and got my girls healthy and coming back. I used 1Tbs hydrogen peroxide/1 gallon of water and sprayed everything: walls, floors, vents, pots, soil, and plants 1 day, then rinsed with water the next. Did this for 2 treatment/rinses(4 days). I will start a bi-weekly treatment with 8Tsp Organic Apple Cider Vinegar/1 gallon of water on the plants only. I, also, plan to use the peroxide wash on everything but the plants on a monthly basis unless it needs it more frequently! New clones and plants in early veg are healthy and clean! I can see some light spots on some older leaves, but any/all new growth is green and healthy! I got some very good help here. Thanks to all!!
