Pot Size

I am looking into growing organically. Been growing with chem ferts for about 3 years. I currentlyuse pots that are 8"x 8" circle. The plants get about 2.5 feet tall. After doin some reading I am wondering if I can grow a plant to harvest in an 8" pot using organics soil. One container per grow is 10"x 10" x 12" deep rectangle. Would either of these be large enough to keep a plant fed thru harvest?

I've just been reading True Living Organics by the Rev and he grows in 2 gallon containers with organic soil. He uses "spikes and layers" to give small areas of the container concentrated nutrients available to the plants to use or not as the plant needs. He says that he grows to about 2.5 feet in the containers with his method. If that sounds interesting, you might want to check out his book. I've rather enjoyed the read and will try his technique on my next grow.

Thanks a lot for the reply. That book sounds just like what I need.

Organic seems to mean different things to different people. Some people think Advanced Nutrients Iguana Juice is organic enough, while others have a stricter view where only natural manures, meals, and cover crops count. It all depends on how pure you want to be and what exactly your looking for by going organic.

I made 2 different batches of dirt. One with more N and one with more P.
The veg batch is
14 cups "dirt" made of 70% organic potting soil, 15% perlite, 15% vermiculite
10 tbls Jobes all purpose organic fertilizer. 3-3-3
2 tbls bone meal
1 tbls kelp meal
2 tbls dried blood
4 tbls dolomite lime

Flower batch
14 cups "dirt" as above
10 tbls Jobes organic tomato-veg fertilizer 2-7-4
2 tbls kelp meal
3 tbls bone meal
1 tbls dried blood
4 tbls dolomite lime

The Jobes stuff has 3 kinds of enzymes to get things cookin. I guess I add some water and keep it warm and moist for 3 or 4 weeks?
Also got some organic spikes?
Using pots that are 8" x 8" round no taper.
Going to read about layering while the dirt sits.
Any comments appreciated.

Be careful with those spikes. It's hard to tell how much or little they are feeding. And may just build up salts in your small pots.

Add some worm castings and or compost, get rid of the jobes crap. The plant will pull what it needs when it needs it from an organic mix, no reason to mess with seperate soil batches for veg or flower.

only veg for a week or so in those pots.

If ever get to dedicate a room to growing, I want to build a raised bed. It does wonders outside, I can only imagine what it will do inside.

I hope you like the read as much as I did. I just repotted my girls Saturday trying to get ready for flipping to flower in a week or two. I repotted using spikes and layers as per the Rev so I'll see how it turns out. She's green and thriving now; fingers crossed in a couple of months, I'll be talking about what beautiful buds she's developing.
