pond smell normal?

New to rdwc and I just did a rez change, but it was smelling like pond water/fish tank water...

Not sure if this is normal

Tempos at 72, rdwc,

Aquaflakes
Rapid root
Cannazyme
Greatwhite
Pondzyme
heisenburg tea

Any ideas?

It was in a new veg system for 2 weeks... roots look good, plants just started to look like they are wilting... but that could have been because it was almost lights off, I'll have to check tomorrow

Hello...Not sure but you will have humidity if in a small enclosed area...Especially if the lil fuckers get big fast...Im using Ona gel to combat any smells. I imagine it will help.

I think that may assist somewhat but if you use air stones galore and whoop ass with ona gel then you will be good. Rez temps are tough to dial in unless you use DWRC.

So heres the dilemma with rez temps... I do a perpetual grow, I pull a light every 3 weeks, so in flower I'll have 3 rez 's if i switch everything over, but am planning on going with at least 2 rdwc systems in flower to start...

And i have a 1/4 hp chiller, for 2 flower setups using less than 50 gallons each... do i use coils to cool using the same chiller or just buy another one....

And it's it ok to skip the chiller in veg?

Just to be clear you are saying the pond smell isn't normal (even when using tea/pond zyme/hydroguard/greatwhite)?

Thanks for the info...

The chiller is the ecoplus 1/4hp... I realize is oversized but i got it for $100, couldn't pass it up... Again I only have 1 of these with 2-3 rez's in flower (just starting systems in flower room)

Yes, not normal. Obvious sign something isn't as it should be, usually aeration/circulation or just a messed up nutrient regime.

(even when using tea/pond zyme/hydroguard/greatwhite)
Well, if I would throw all that crap together in my rez I wouldn't expect it would actually "help" anything... I use aquaflakes too, love it.

How high is your ppm?

Since the res change i don't smell the pond smell but I'm sure it'll be back...

Ppm is at 390 on the 500 scale, plants are in veg...

Right now I'm using everything minus the greatwhite in the res... still using a little to make tea...

So I'm using ...
Aquaflakes
Rapid root
Cannazyme 1/2 strength
About half scoop of pondzyme
And heisenburg tea

I don't claim to know shit about dwc and am open to all help buti thought that would be a good recipe... I figured it was temps of 72, or something else

Thanks for the input, what would you suggest i do different?

390ppm? That's even less than I use :) Some more questions:

How is the nutrient uptake going? Does the ppm drop over night? Is that with RO water, if not, how many of that is from tapwater?

You mentioned you have a rdwc, is it recirculating fast/good enough?

And last but not least, what's the pH?

what would you suggest i do different?
I would - after making sure everything is light proof and sufficiently aerated, ditch the tea, the rapid root, and the pondzyme and reduce the amount of cannazym even further. And the bump the ppm a little (450-500) with more aquaflakes. That's what I do in practice, although I use cannazym only during the first couple of weeks (when in small dwc preveg box that gets warm) and recently replaced it with multizym (need less and has NPK 4-0-1 instead of the 0-2-1 cannazym has).

Ok so veg ppm should be closer to 500?

How about wheni pull em right out of the cloner? Start em on 500 too?

Ph is 5.8 right now and I think it's recirculating plenty...

Why no pondzyme? I was thinking i may just use it in veg unless i get problems in flower....

And i thought rapid start was a great product (like roots excell)

Ams to clear it up I have 1 185 gph pump for about 38 gallons, so almost 5 changes an hour seems plenty to me but again what do i know. I'm gonna bea pro in 6 months though and I'd these plants turn out anything like my dwc buckets i ran in the past I'll be pumped....

Also can you guys uploada pic of what type roots look like before you move them to flower?

When i grew before i prob begged 6 weeks, at 3 weeks there aren't a ton of roots... I'll post a pic later

this guy is using a translucent blue walmart tub for his res with holes sawed out with a steak knife.
