Pollen Extractor

I grabbed one of those pollen extractors, small but they work ok. Only thing is I can get more yield doing it manually through 100u screen. I just leave it running for about an hour per run, fresh/frozen/ground seems to work best. I fill it half full and switch it every hour to hour and a half. Yield is about 1/2 of what I can run manually but it kills my back so I'll take the hit in yields. A bigger unit would be nice and maybe 100u instead of 150u for the screen, may take a shot at building something at some point. You can re-run the rough-ground shake or bud and get more yield if you let it run a couple of hours at a time also.

In today's mail:
"When making bubble, I have found that the 120 and 190 micron hash is just so-so, but something is better than nothing when the alternative is spending needlessly at a dispensary. At the least, it can be used to augment lessor quality bud". - farmer.
My shipped-screen tumbler is 180-micron. There's a 150-micron. Looks like I'll be ordering that as well. If so, I believe it's $60.US shipped. Besides buying an additional sifter-screen set-up, 150-micron is probably the (wait minute...what's a "u"?) finest I can gain. Might be best to order the 150 now before the tumbler takes flight.

Done. I think I'm garden-backed to the max now. Shipped at $69. Euro must have made a bump.

Someone put me out of my misery and assure me that there's no way that the Extractor will ever produce compressible pollen that will create hash. Does the Extractor at best, produce a low-grade Moroccan variety whose every grain is visible?
Has anyone ever used the popular, stainless, T-handled, "thumb-screw" compacter on Extractor pollen and ended up with anything resembling Lebanese bagged?

I use most of my trim and bud for edibles, caps and the like. I sift it first to get more consistent dosages in my caps. I vape it straight up, sometimes smoke it, once you cure it for a few weeks it's quite good and tasty. I actually have one of those pollen presses, came with a bud grinder but have never used/tried it. Jar on the left first pic was a recent run through that extractor. My sift never stays around long enough, it usually gets converted as it's harvested ;) I keep my sift separate but mix strains on purpose sometimes like my CBD Harlequin with my high THC Blue Ripper cross.

I've just ordered one of these too. I may have to get the 150 micron screen too, darn.
Was it an option to have only the 150 sent out, and not the 180? That would suck to realize in hindsight.

Darn, it was. At least from that website - I got it through ebay.
Might as well get a second whole unit at that price - unless the 180 is truly useless.

I haven't used the 180 or the 150 yet. The company emphasized that the Pollen Extractor was popular with laboratories involved in cross-pollination. And the company mentioned that they were working on a larger model and emphasized the use of dry ice. I'm not doing dry-ice. Maybe d.i. is easy to obtain in France. Not so much in California.
Maybe France's 180-mesh is smaller than USA 180-mesh.

My experience with 180-mesh is that you're getting alot of 150 trichs in the sift, but 30-mesh will let alot of veg matter into the powder, enough that the hash gets the job done, but the taste is raspy.
I have a 150-mesh PollenExtractor drum that I'll use to dry-sift my remaining popcorn-duff and see how it presses and taste - then report back.

Nice texture. Looks squeezable. That was 150-mesh sift, on the left?
Hey yes that was a run with the 150 extractor, quality is good, just not as much yield but you can set it and forget it more or less, just re-fill it once in a while and turn it on. The jar on the right is my finger hash stash, my favourite but damn that stuff knocks you out, the terps on the finger hash are incredible.

I can get more doing it manually on a 100 screen but using both methods depending on whether I have the time to sift manually or not. These units are decent for the price, I've seen similar for like $400+

We're getting Santa Ana wind conditions blowing from the east which will dry the atmosphere out to the teens next week. Poifect for dry sifting. I have about 1/2 lb. of popcorn shake, not the best, but I like the "turn it on and leave it" aspect of the PollenExtractor.

"How finely chopped should my buds be to go in the extractor?"
Yes!, how should the dry buds be processed? Popcorn crushed first amongst the duff?
Won't that smash the trichs globes within the popcorn bud?

I've got a cheap $12 dollar bean grinder I like to buzz my green in. You can either powder it by holding down the button. Or pulse it with short bursts. Either way. "Herbie" ends up coated with dust all over the dome and bowl. Love putting a sprinkle of magic on my bowl before lighting up.

PE.4.JPG Yesterday the humidity was 28%. Believing it wouldn't drop any lower, I took 380 grms. of "once screened" buds (now a collection of bud-leaf and popcorn garbage), and sifted half-a canister full in the PollenExtractor. Quite frankly, I did not consider the PollenExtractor to be very efficient at separating trichomes from their perch, because the back and forth action is too gentle. WRONG! These little tumblers will work like a dog, while you're squeezing-up more of your popcorn-duff. I put the 380 grms into a large Rubbermaid clear-bottom container, and wore nitryl gloves to squeeze all of the popcorn into flake. I was sceer-ed of cutting all of the little trich-people to smithereens by using the bean grinder.
I made three 40-second silent-videos, but I'll need to post them to YouTube. No upload here. I'll snap some more still-pics of the set-up.
This came through the PE's 150u mesh. There is no harsh vegetable matter in this powder. It's a light-kief press. It taste good and rips your eyeballs red immediately. I like it - I like it.

Of note: Somehow I managed to use 220-mesh with my TrimBin thinking that the screen mesh industry rated their grids, the same as sandpaper companies rated their grits. But, a 70-grid pollen screen is near the smallest. And a 70-grit piece of sanding material is like rocks glued onto paper.
Hence, 11 grams of my precious hash are TrimBin's 220-mesh and taste so bad, and so leaf smelly, that I'm going to need to try and re-screen it with one 150. Aye...caramba!
Summary: Don't ever screen your material with 220u. Imo, 220-u should be outlawed. I like the TrimBin, but they're claim that "You'll get more pollen", failed to include the caveat "you'll get more leaf too!"

Not bad for the price then? Glad to see you got it going and happy with the quality. One thing I don't think I mentioned was you can re-run your ground material at least twice and I just did a run and kept track of it, got a total of 7.5% with two passes. Meaning ran 202g through once, re-froze, re-ran all of it again (about 3 batches per run), ended up with 15.5g of 150u kief. If I ran this manually I'd be expecting about 20-22g with this grade/strain (10-11%) Not terrible and my back isn't f'd.

I was apprehensive about running the 380 grms. through again, figuring that I'd be collecting that straw-taste. [Nasty's what you get with the 220 screen TrimBin.] I've got some pics from today's effortless collection. 2.2 g total. And it taste keif good. No less.
1. The drive wheel. 2. fill the container half-full. 3. Turn the dial slowly until the canister is bumping twice before it moves clock-wise. Every time the canister bumps, it knocks pollen off. Sweet! 4. The pile after 20-minutes left alone to do it's thing. 5. Turn the canister clock-wise and sweep the pollen-off. 6. Included is a thin celluloid scraping card. I use this with a small funnel that sits in top of the T-handled press. Nifty, flat, nylon painters brush is from TrimBin® ($5.) 7. (1.2 gs.) of pressed good-kief. Not harsh. Not even a hint of "straw-taste".
