I'm on my 3rd week of lifting and getting pinched nerves in my back/shoulders. Ibuprofen helps but I don't want to keep talking it. Any suggestions?

is it chronic, like a bone spur or disc probs or from working out?

could you give more detail about when it occurs and type of pain/where it occurs. makes a difference. you need to know the root of the problem and if its something a little more serious

incorrect posture is the leading cause, wether sleeping sitting etc

hot/cold compress or warm bath can ease tension and inflammation around the nerves. there are many ointments you could apply including holistic approaches. muscle weakness/atrophy is also a common cause, do you typically work yiur back?. stretching and a healthy diet will help, similar to muscle cramps. make sure your getting b vitamins, better yet. take a multi. i have a feeling you eat mostly unprocessed foods and arent a vegan? with your i believe farming back im sure yiu get these but still....

It's the middle of my back under each shoulder blade, not near my spine. I stretch regularly. Started feeling it mid last week. I work my upper body 5 days a week. It goes away when I workout but comes back soon after. Sometimes it makes my arms go numb. Is it something I might just need to power through until my body gets use to it?

I play a lot of sports and get that in my lower back every once in a while, couple of times a year, but usually doing something stupid like picking up a pen off the floor was the last time it happened. Stretching helps a bit but it's only temp relief, it takes about 10 days to go away and faster if I push myself through it. Sitting around is the worst thing for it. 60mg coconut oil/kief caps take care of it until it goes away, I don't take pharma meds but tried some anti-inflammatory's a few years back and they did shit other than upset my stomach, canna-caps are awesome for relief.

I get the lower back ones too but not nearly as often, and like you, from doing something that shouldn't set it off. Last time was from sleeping on the couch.

Fortunately it's typically only once, sometimes twice a year but yeah, always doing something stupid like picking up that pen was the last one, before that it happened when I picked up my 2 year old granddaughter. Meanwhile I play ice hockey, ball hockey, soccer, snowboard and ski, never had a problem, crazy shit. My son gets it and he's in his 30's, my dad would get it from time to time, must be something hereditary in our lower back area.

5 days a week just for upper body is too much, try doing it 3 times a week and do legs twice

I've taken a break for the last 2 days so I didn't injury myself and the pain has now gone away. I'll reduce my workout to 3 days a week and give myself some time to heal. I don't usually workout my legs because they get a good workout from my job (I drag dead bodies around). I'm really just trying to add to my chest/shoulders.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Update: Must have been from working out too much. I've worked out with heavier weights this week but only on Monday and Wednesday, no problems with pain this time, other than the normal workout fatigue.

be aware of body mechanics with the exact movements and lifting you're doing. there may be other exercises that will still strengthen the area without stressing anything. a lot of lifting can mess with tendons and ligaments. break up your workout plan and interrupt the repetition.

i suggest doing circuit training one day ..which means full body work out and next day doing carrion and abs...then take a day off and repeat ..you will cut up nicely and be in awesome shape

I'm in great shape right now, it's just that I'm in my mid 30s and starting to gain weight real quick. I'm hoping to turn it into muscle instead of fat.

Resistance bands! Do the same work out but do resistance bands till failure once for each exercise. If your benching after you do your last rep, put a band on one side..under the bench to the other side. Flick it a few times for it to center itself then Do just the band and the bar till you can't any longer. Help build all the attachments and muscles core, helps to stabalize yourself and achieve proper mechanics without stressing the wrong muscles to make up. I went hard when I first started working out and fucked up a bunch of shit (rotators, back, hip) once I put resistance bands I to the mix my issues where gone... Give it a try

Best suggestion: chiropractor.

The good ones really help. I swear by them, but then again my dad is one, so I go whenever I need to and it doesn't cost me anything.

Good luck.

Yeah for a major pinched nerve use a tennis ball apply pressure to the tender spots just press it against the spot until the pain dissipates then find another spot. You can also buy a rumble roller (I have the blue one which is softer that the black one but it's just right). You can use that as well same principle except you lay on it and stay on an area that's tender until it fades..

If it's a strain/pulled muscle don't do this it will worsen, this is for a knot/pinched nerve.
